door handle falls off

Same problem as several other complaints. The driver's door handle suddenly fell off and the driver's door wouldn't close. My husband finally got the door to close but now I have to climb in and out from the passenger side. Super annoying, and obviously potentially dangerous. Lots of trim problems with this car, from inside door molding bowing up to weather stripping separating from the windshield and tearing off. Trim guy was drunk, asleep or absent when this one came down the line. Hubs is taking it to the dealer tomorrow.

I went to get into my car and the drivers door would not close. There was something wrong with the latch that would not allow the door to close. I got out to look and the outside handle had just fell off. I played with the handle and latch and got the latch to open so I could close the door. I had to crawl in through the passengers door over to the drivers seat to drive the car and crawl back over to the passengers side to get out. I called Ford and they said I had to take the vehicle to a dealer and they would diagnose the problem and inform me of my options. My car is no longer under the Ford warranty.

I purchased the car only 2 years ago. I purchased the extended warranty. However, I do not think this will be covered under the extended warranty either. I think it is a safety hazard and should be recalled by Ford. I do not know how much the repair is going to cost yet. I owned my previous Ford for 10 years and things didn't start going wrong until it had 100K miles on it. They don't make things the way the used to.

door handle falls off

Purchased this vehicle July 2nd 2018, with 31,312 miles. I've had a few problems with this vehicle, and but I'll start with the most recent issue that I'm very disappointed with and consider myself a very lucky individual.

Heading home from work, started the car up and headed down the road BUT as I turned a corner, my Driver Door Ajar came on and the door swung open. I'm thankful there was no oncoming traffic and had my seat belt fastened! I had tried to pull the door closed but unsuccessful, was able to hold it closed until I could pull over. The door latch hit something that blocked it from closing, so I kept fiddling with the lock/unlock buttons, eventually shut the car off and started back up, the door finally closed.

I proceeded to the gas station, got out, filled my tank, went to open the door and the dam handle fell off, just like that, fell apart. The small piece that goes around the lock was no where to be found so it must have fallen off on my drive to the gas station.. Anyway, I ended up having to use the passenger side, to get into the car.

Called the dealership where I purchased it, and they proceeded to tell me that they could not get me in until the following week and would have to determine if the issue is covered under my extended warranty. What??!! So all week long, I've been entering the back seat, reaching to the front to open the door, what a pain in the butt, and In my opinion, there is no question in my mind, I should not have to pay for this repair, this is a DEFECT and Ford needs to stand up to their product. They should consider themselves lucky I didn't end up in an accident.

My appointment is tomorrow to determine if I will have to pay anything, I'll keep you posted.

Update from Oct 15, 2019: Update: dealership seemed surprised that this happened, and I got the distinct feeling as if they did not believe me that the handle just simply fell apart.

They took a look at it and basically said that my extended warranty would not cover it and that it would cost me approximately 150.00 to fix it, which I rolled my eyes because the part itself is only $16.00 I'm tired of getting overcharged for defects that should be covered by the dealer. Anyway, I told them I would no longer need their services and I went to my automotive friend, who installed the $16.00 part in less than 15 minutes, NO CHARGE. He basically said it's no wonder the part falls apart because it's basically plastic on the inside, thought it was a poor design

door handle falls off door handle falls off

Bought the car from a local reputable Ford Dealership. We only buy Ford vehicles. This is the 3rd issue we have had with it and this is not covered under warranty? Went to open the door and the handle falls apart!? Extremely poorly made and makes me rethink my purchase and will definitely influence my future purchases of Ford vehicles. 3rd issue with this Explorer in 2 months. Not at all happy with Ford right now.

Pulled the door handle to get in my car and it fell off...nothing happened to it other than opening the door - how can this happen so I take it in and they want $110 for the part and $120 to replace - OMG - and on top of that the passenger door panel is falling off....that they say is covered under warranty but the fact that I can't get into my car isn't - I will NEVER buy another ford..and I can tell you that I will be writing everyone and their mother - the service guy I spoke to could give to craps about me bitching ...argh!!!

door handle falls off door handle falls off door handle falls off

Bought the extended warranty for my 2015 Ford Explorer, and was told everything was covered except typical oil changes, brakes, wipers, ect. Never received any whats covered, whats not info. The warranty place stated it was a body part. It is a functional part. Without it, I cant get into my door and its mechanical, as it was the inside of the door handle that broke. I went to open the door and it came off in my hand. Cost me almost $300 to fix. If this is a known problem with Fords, and they are not willing to fix it for free, this will be the last FORD me or anyone in my family ever buys.

UNSURE HOW A VEHICLE THAT HAS NO EXTERIOR DAMAGE WOULD HAVE A HANDLE JUST FALL OFF FOR NO REASON AT ALL. UNLOCKED THE DOORS WITH THE REMOTE KEY AND THE DOOR HANDLE JUST FELL OFF WHEN ENTERING THE VEHICLE... THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM THAT FORD IS HAVING.. ANYONE HAVE AN EASY FIX???

The piece that broke is a small plastic part and the connection point snapped. It isn't even the handle itself, it is the small cover piece for the lock area of the handle. When it falls off, the handle slides back and disconnects from the latch and the door won't open or close.

In todays world, an automobile should have a 100,000 mile warranty on everything (except wear items like brakes). There is no excuse for a body part to give out after 3 years of use. There is no reason to not stress test these parts for 1000's of uses and identify the weaknesses prior to production. I don't live in an excessively hot or cold environment that would weaken the component, it is simply flawed or under-engineered for it's intended use.

If Ford doesn't recall these, they should at least add a "warranty" type coverage to replace any that break within 5 years / 100k miles.

I love my Ford, I just wish it had some better quality in a few areas.

Went to open my door on my 2015 Explorer Limited and the handle just fell off. This, along with the door panel pulling up at the window makes me question their quality control and also if I will continue to buy a Ford in the future. It is a door panel and a door handle. Seems to me that these two things might have been done by someone not paying attention at the plant. Ford should make good on this and stand behind their products. These types of things should not happen to a 2-year-old car! Crazy!
