While driving down a city street, my vehicle started running rough and the accelerator did nothing. The terrain management system fault light came on with the orange wrench. I was able to coast to the side of the road even though I had lost my power steering. I shut it off and waited a minute or so then restarted it. It ran rough for a few seconds then smoothed out. The warning lights went off and I was able to make it home. I made an appointment with a local dealer They found the code P211 in the computer and replaced the throttle body. I saw an article where ford had covered the throttle body on 1.5 million fords. I contacted Ford Customer care and they gave me the prepared answers why my vehicle wasn't covered.

Aug. 2016. Our Ford Explorer Limited was being driven on a busy freeway (65 miles/hr). The engine light turned on and the vehicle slowed down. I tried to push on the accelerator and it didn't work. Started slowing down ON A BUSY freeway, middle lane! I put the hazards on and hoped no one would hit me from behind. I carefully went into the outer lane to try get onto the safest area on the freeway. There is no safe area on this freeway at the moment that is completely under construction so there is hardly any shoulder. I was able stop the vehicle and switched everything off. I was going to call help but I thought I should try and see if it starts. It did and I put it into drive and slowly made sure I had acceleration. It worked. The scary and dangerous part is that the engine just seemed to switch off while going at a fast speed. It was a very dangerous situation. I am not sure where to turn now as the warranty was finished in June of 2016 so we had to pay out over $700 to have this problem fixed. There was only about 35,000 miles on this vehicle. Our mechanic said this has been a common problem and am wondering if it is, why has not been some sort of recall?
