Driving home at 45MPH and had my '13 Ford Explorer with only 65k miles JOLT and then lose power. The Wrench symbol appeared and said "Check Manual" and then all power was gone. No response at all at the accelerator pedal. It keep moving at 5 MPH, parked and prayed that it was just a one time tantrum. I restarted the engine then, and it was back to normal. I don't drive much but it did it again at my other 4 miles drive trip, restarted the engine and made it back home.

I called dealership to get an appointment to a diagnostic. I'll bring it in on Nov 13,2019, I will see what they say.

Update from Nov 14, 2019 Update 11-14-2019; on code P2111, limp mode, stall idling speeds of 3MPH, warning wrench light on. 1-Ford dealership charged me $150, only for the diagnostic and told me what I already knew, code P2111. 2-Contacted Customer care of Ford company, and they stated that there was no warranty on throttle body actuator. 3-I decided to take my suv home and buy an online throttle body for cost around $75-$200.

Ford does not stay by its promise on the "Customer Satisfaction Program 13N03".

In the last 2 weeks as I am driving, my car will just stop accelerating. The wrench warning will light up. I have to pull over, turn off the car, then restart it. Then it drives just fine. I was told that it was the throttle body that needs to be replaced. After researching it, it sounds like it is another common Ford problem that they won't recall. This could be extremely dangerous if you are on the interstate and your car just suddenly dies.

Explorer ALT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

The engine shuts off by itself almost in the same spot. The vehicle does not have remote engine start. I live an apartment complex with 4 gates. Everyone is given a remote to open the gate to the property. Every other time I drive up to the gate and press the gate opener the engine shuts off. I am not sure if its just a coincidence or if the gate opener or gate motor is causing this. I did sit in the garage with the motor running in both park and drive and pushing the remote and nothing happened. In front of this gate is the only time this has happened.
