Noticed the bubbles when washing the car like I normally do. Seemed to come out of nowhere.

Took it to the dealer and the tech said right away that this is a common problem and Ford is "well aware" of the issue. He quickly took pictures and within 2 hours we had approval from Ford for the repair.

They shipped me a new hood (surprisingly) and it's been in the body shop for a week getting repainted.

Unbelievable that such an issue exists due to obvious problems at the factory. I mean come on.

Sucks it had to happen but at least in my case, Ford quickly remedied the issue and under warranty. I'm not sure what would've happened if it was outside of the warranty. I would probably be leaving a much angrier message here.

I purchased the 2013 Ford Explorer in May of 2013; August 1, 2015 I notice paint bubble located around the rim of the hood only 38,000 miles on the SUV. This SUV is just over 2 years and the paint surface is showing a defect in the paint process. I’m schedule to take vehicle into Ford in the 3rd week of August to have the hood problem checked, vehicle is out of warranty. Future updates to follow.

Update from Oct 5, 2015: Dealer will not agree that the Ford's 5-Year Extended corrosion coverage applies because the hood isn't showing any holes. The warranty states that coverage only if the body part has holes caused by corrosion during normal use. Ford dealer as well as manufactory doesn’t agree to fix the hood problem

I noticed bubbles on my hood of the Explorer, at first I thought it was a rock chip, but then I noticed more and more and now the whole hood is bubbling, and paint is falling off, this is a 2013 vehicle and this should not be happening, I'm planning on going to ford dealership and see what they say, but I read a lot of people on the Web saying that ford isn't covering this issue. This is ridiculous, paying all this money for the car and for the paint to be falling off and bubbling so soon, I'm out of the factory warranty, I have a extended warranty on the car now.

Ford made a poor decision using low cost solutions and is passing the cost on to the consumers. Ford has refused to correct the situation but is more than willing to repair the damage if the consumer pays for it. Not a bad plan if this is allowed to continue. Sell poor quality products and then charge the consumer to repair the problem. What happened to quality is job one.

The problem is that it's just going to get worse and everything I have read seems like Ford knew about the problem and still sold us a second Explorer. Household has 2 Explorers, 2011 and 2013, both bubbling and pealing! One belongs to my 70 year old mother-in-law, she loves hers but thinks that's a load of crap, she makes her payments on fixed income, Ford won't help her.

My stepdad noticed the bubbling. First dealership said it wouldn't be covered (we had moved about 45 miles away from the dealership where we purchased it in fall 2012). We had an extended warranty, so I had my husband call the dealer we purchased it from.

They're covering it, dealer paying half and Ford paying half. They're also providing a rental. Not sure who's providing that although I have a feeling it's the dealer. I have to drive it the 45 miles back to them but that's small potatoes.

I love my Explorer - it's the first truly American car I ever bought - but this has my husband wanting to trade it for a Honda CRV. He's not confident the repair will hold, since the first dealer told him the problem would recur in 3-4 years. If anyone has experience with how the repairs hold up, please advise! I really don't want to trade in my red beast.

As a loyal Ford customer (have owned approximately 30 since my first 1965 Mustang, and have had 12 Explorers and have purchased another 20 Fords on behalf of my company. I was so very disappointed to hear from two different dealers that Ford would do nothing to help with this problem for a car so new. I will be purchasing a different brand of car next, since this is how Ford treats loyalty and multiple purchases.

paint on hood bubbling around perimeter paint on hood bubbling around perimeter paint on hood bubbling around perimeter paint on hood bubbling around perimeter

We have a 2013 Ford Explorer, Limited we purchased in July of 2012. Less than 3 years old and the mileage is a few thousand miles over warranty at 41,000. The paint on the hood is bubbling around the edge and pealing. We have the premium extended warranty and we took it to two separate Ford dealers requesting for it to be repaired. Both told us they know there is a problem with the paint on the hoods and told us let them see what they can do. Both came back, told us there was nothing they can do, but gave us the 1-800-392-3973 Ford customer service number and told us to call it. We did, but no one answers, it's all automated and it told us after their customer representative took our call we would be asked to do a quick survey about the call. Guess what, it took us straight to the survey without talking to a representative, asking us how was the customer service agent and were they able to assist with our problem.

Needless to say, we are not happy and anyone else that experience their paint pealing should not be either. This is pretty much a new vehicle and the paint is coming off, unbelievable... We have be Ford people for a long time, we actually have two fairly new Ford vehicles at the moment.... Key words, "at the moment"

Update from Jul 18, 2015: Talked to the dealership. They have offered to repair and our cost would be $150.00. I have replied back asking them what caused it and will this repair keep it from coming back? It's been three days and I have yet to hear back.

Bubbling under the paint on front edge of hood. Just appeared out of no-where. Vehicle is always garaged and taken care of. No chips etc near bubbling.

Called Local Ford Dealer, had to set up appointment so they can photograph the area and submit it to Ford to see if they will repair it.........Huh? Didn't realize I have to point out obvious quality control issues for new vehicles and try to convince them to repair.

I just want Ford to do the right thing and rectify the problem. I expect them to, especially now that I know this is a known problem. I don't want to have to fight, I just want them to apologize, thank me for letting them know about the issue, and fix it.
