Have had this vehicle for 2 years. Washing it one day a chunk of paint pealed off the hood. I was told to see if this is a recall? If I call ford will they tell me anything?
Paint bubbling became visible after paint warranty was over. Ford advised may be covered by corrosion warranty. Brought to dealer who referred to Ford Motor Company. Ford reviewed photos taken by dealer and denied coverage stating corrosion had to be all the way through the affected area. Owner appealed their decision citing two prior Ford Technical Service Bulletins for aluminum body part contamination by iron in painting process. Ford and dealer refused to fix the problem.

Noticed paint bubbling from front lip of hood, after investigating further, noticed underside of front lip had corrosion all along the front edge,This should not be happening on a vehicle under 5 years old. Went to ford being this is definitely a production/bad metal problem but after two months of back and forth with dealership I finally got a response "Thank you for contacting the Ford Customer Relationship Center regarding your recent vehicle concern. We have thoroughly reviewed your request and after careful consideration we regret that Ford is not able to provide financial assistance to address your issue. We are sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations at this time and recommend you continue to work with your Ford dealership to provide the best service for your vehicle in the future.
Thank you again for contacting Ford."
Ford obviously has no concerns about customer retention.... we are done with Ford!!!
The paint bubbles started over a year ago, but just a few months ago the paint started to flake off. My dealer said water must have gotten under it from small holes caused by rock and pebble hits. I've only ever owned Ford cars, but this may be my last. The car is only 4 years old now, and this started a year ago.
Purchased a certified used 2013 Ford Explorer in mid 2014. When washing it this summer I noticed bad rust bubbles around the front perimeter of the hood. The car is garaged and has no damage or rock chips in the area. This is definitely a hood/paint factory problem that needs addressing by ford.

I have taken great care of my 2013 Ford Explorer, washing and waxing on a regular basis, only to realize recently that the paint is bubbling on the front edge of the hood, and is now starting to flake off when touched very slightly! The local Ford dealership where I have my car serviced contacted Ford, and they said that it was out of warranty and would not do anything about it. I heard from someone else that Ford had agreed to share the cost of the repair, so I guess I'm going to see if I can get some kind of satisfaction out of Ford. In researching this issue on the internet, it is an OBVIOUS issue with Ford Explorers, and it is very disappointing that Ford Motor Co. will not stand behind their vehicles and take care of this problem. I am a loyal Ford customer, but may have to re-think that now!
Went to local Ford dealer to discuss. They stated that they have seen it numerous times on all vehicles with aluminum hood. Problem is corrosion of the aluminum. Per Ford "must have a hole that can be seem through before they will fix under warranty". Dealer quote $700-800 to fix. Must sand out the damage and repaint edge of hood. More areas found starting, but not as bad as two that are the size of quarter on hood. Dealer agreed that this is Ford issue. They will fix if vehicle has less than 36,000 miles, but not after.
Paint is bubbling and chipping off around the perimeter of the hood. It looks awful with silver gray areas around the tuxedo black paint. The spots just continue to grow.
Noticed that the paint was beginning to bubble around the perimeter of the hood in September 2016. It was just one spot. Since then it's various spots and I took it to the autobody shop in 5/2017 and they said that they see it on Ford Explorers all the time. I took it to Reineke Ford in Lima where they submitted photos to Ford and they said they would not cover it because there was no whole through the hood. I then took it to Wapak Ford in Wapakoneta Ohio and they said it wasn't covered either. They suggested i get it repainted so it doesn't get worse. I once was a loyal Ford owner; I'm not so sure now.
Bought as new in Nov 2012. One point during two years of ownership, one day when washing the car, noticed the paint bubbles. Over time it got worse, it starts to peel off.
To me it is a factory defect and there should be a factory Recall. I know it's not related to safety but it's one of the reason of purchasing the car.
ON JULY 3, 2017 TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WITH COMPLAINT ABOUT PAINT BUBBLES ON THE FRONT HOOD. THEY TOOK PICTURES AND SENT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. ON JULY 12, 2017 FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE EVIDENTLY CALLED LILLISTON FORD AND SAID CLAIM WAS NOT VALID SINCE IT WAS PAST WARRANTY PERIOD. THE ADDITIONAL 5YR/UNLIMITED MILES WARRANTY WAS DENIED SINCE THERE WAS NOT A PERFORATION THRU THE HOOD OF THE CAR WHERE THE BUBBLES WERE. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 6/7 BUBBLES UNDERNEATH AND ON TOP OF THE CAR HOOD AND BUBBLES WITH CRACKS IN THE FRONT EDGE OF THE HOOD. CRACKS IN THE PAINT ARAE NOT COVERED UNDER FORD'S INTERPRETATION OF "PERFORATION". I WONDER WHAT THE HOOD WILL LOOK LIKE IN 2-3 YEARS WHEN IT STARTS TO RUST AND THE PAINT PEELS OFF. THE ABOVE RESPONSE BY FORD REFLECTS THEIR "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS THEIR #1 GOAL". IT IS NOTEWORTHY TO MENTION THAT THE ABOVE PROBLEM IS NOT A NEW ONE ON FORD VEHICLES AND YET FORD HAD NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM
Repaired 2 yrs 1 month (May 13, 2015) after original new vehicle purchase date. Repaired a second time on Jan. 8, 2016. The hood is rusting/bubbling up again in 3 separate places and the steel metal on the inside of the hood is rusted out and needs to be replaced. I paid $47,300 for this vehicle on April 25, 2013. This vehicle is the 38th Ford we have purchased new from Ford since 1956. I'm a loyal Ford owner and I hope Ford gives me back some company loyalty.
2013 ford explorer limited with 40,000 miles PAINT on the hood is peeling. Ford dealer said they would try to have Ford motors do the repairs - NOT- I didn't know it was a problem until I saw all the complaints. this my third explorer and may be my last.
I have a '13 Explorer with 85,000 miles and the paint is bubbling and peeling off the front edge like everyone else's. I've seen several on the road just like mine and like everyone else I'm being told it's out of warranty due to the mileage. Yes it's a lot of miles and Ford is going to hide behind it but with the miles I drive it would have been out of warranty before 2013 even ended. That's not a warranty, that's an illusion.
Estimate to repaint is $500.00 but that may be nothing more than a Band-Aid. It looks like the issue is galvanic corrosion, the catalyst of which would have started at the factory before it was ever painted. Therefore if I have it repainted it will probably come right back.
Ford obviously has an issue with these hoods and I think a class action lawsuit is the only way to get Ford to buy new hoods and have them painted.
I've got 3 Fords in the driveway and this will be the last one if Ford doesn't step up and do the right thing.
I feel that Ford should expedite the repair/painting of my vehicle. I do not live in an area that frequently utilizes brine to clear the roads and my car is parked out of the weather. There is no reason for the paint to be bubbling on the hood. My car is only 4 years old and should not be having this problem!
Just bought vehicle in June. Looked real nice till I got it home and noticed bubbling along front of hood. Also told by dealer, later, out of 3/36000 warranty. This is total BS. If there is a CLASS ACTION SUIT. I wANT IN. lET ME KNOW.
As with most Ford's my Explorer has significant paint bubbling on the hood. It is a known problem with Ford's and they never mentioned it to me as an owner. I only noticed it after an unrelated fender bender and the body shop pointed it out to me. My vehicle was already out of warranty by a few thousand miles but clearly the problem did not just occur after they warranty ended but I never though to look at the paint on my hood. If Ford had done the right thing and told owners to look out for this known defect and correct any defective hoods regardless of the warranty, it would have shown some loyalty to its customers. I am done buying Ford's and will advise anyone I know not to but Ford.
