We purchased our 2012 Ford Explorer in December 2011 after researching and test driving several other SUV's and decided on the Explorer.
We have had it in at least eight (8) times times for air bag light on. We had the Explorer in on August 1, 2018 again for air bag light on , the said it was a seat belt tensioner and fixed it (that same item was fixed a few months back).
I asked the service manager if light is on does the AIR BAG SYSTEM work, HE SAID NO. After several attempts by our dealer to fix, the light would still come on, so we bought it back again and again. We started to take pictures of air bag light on with miles and when we bought it to the dealer to drop off we took pictures of drop off envelope with filled out information because when we picked up Explorer it was not documented on pick up ticket. WHAT A COVER UP.
Also, on our pick up ticket they put in a bogus phone number and e-mail address. I asked why and our team leader said it was to protect us , so someone else did not get our information. I believe it was to keep us from giving the dealer a bad review. Our extended warranty runs out in December and after that we will be on our own. So what do we do: Buy another extended warranty, trade it in and buy another brand vehicle (more money) Some other poor person will get an Explorer with FAULTY AIR BAG SYSTEM. My only suggestion is when air bag light comes on pull over and have your Explorer towed to the closest Ford dealer and see if Ford will pay for tow, or maybe you have AAA or another tow service.
Ford does not want to own up to this manufacture problem.
