I was driving in the left lane in two lane traffic when the right rear door flew open unexpectatlly with my 3 yr old granddaughter sitting in the seat next to the open door. I stopped beside the curb, my wife got out into the traffic and manually closed the door. Scary situation. Luckily the driver behind me saw the situation and stopped. Later I set the child locks on the doors and now the passenger(s) cannot open the door from the inside. I have to get out of the vehicle and open the door for them. I took the vehicle to the Ford dealer and they told me I have a broken latch. $300 to repair. Ford has a recall on numerous vehicles with similar problems but the EXPLORER in not on the recall list. Consumer to pay the bill. Hopefully the other latch doesn't break.
I called Ford Canada and they told me that they could't help with replacement/cost because the Explorer is not on the recall list. They would forward my concern. Possibly the Explorer latches would be recalled at a late date so for me to save all my receipts. I'm not feeling very confident with my claim as Ford has been dealing with the latch problems for 2 years and its costing them big $
