2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, 13,000K on it. In the year that I have had this vehicle, the panic alarm (horn sounding, lights flashing) has just gone off randomly on it's own, I say this because each time it's gone off the circumstances were different. The first time my husband put the key in the driver's door to unlock the door - key fob was useless to stop it and the alarm just ceased on it's own after 5 minutes. The second time, the Ford Technician (1st oil change!) used the key fob to unlock the doors and the alarm started sounding, no one on scene could figure out how to shut it off and they were asking ME - it stopped on it's own after they opened the door and manually locked and unlocked the door from the inside!? The third time, I was in the vehicle in a parking lot, the keys were in the ignition, the engine was off, I dropped something out of my window and got out to pick it up - alarm started to sound as soon as I re-entered the vehicle! For this instance, the key fob actually worked to stop the alarm. Today, I was once again in the vehicle on a ferry, I started the engine to prepare to disembark, put on my seatbelt and the alarm sounded - nothing could stop it, nor could anyone else help me. I turned off the engine and it stopped, only to start up again not more than a minute later....this happened SEVERAL times, so I simply drove it off the ferry with the alarm engaging, after a minute of driving it, the alarm just stopped on its own!! I'm thinking of getting rid of this stupid vehicle, it's driving me NUTS.
What do I ask for if I take this to my dealership to get fixed??? I also have an optional siren/aftermarket alarm on this vehicle - can I just ask to have the OEM alarm disengaged??
