A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I had the ignition switch assembly replaced under warranty in 2009 bc the key would get stuck in there and you couldn't get it back out. This time the dome light would come on whenever I hit a bump in the road and I initially thought it was related to the door- in fact if I opened and closed the driver door again the light would go out. Tonight I was driving (thankfully at low speeds bc I was coming up to a stop sign) and reached down to scratch my leg but when I did I brushed against the ignition key and the engine shut off- while the truck was moving the engine cut out. I'll call the dealer tomorrow but I wanted to post this tonight for the person whose dome lights are coming on when they hit a bump. I repeated the failure when I pulled into my driveway and found that if the key is moved less than what seems like a quarter inch towards the off position the engine will cut out and the interior lights will come on- the key is NOT in the off position nor it it even halfway to the off position. I'm grateful this didn't happen on the turnpike or at higher speeds! So, this is not a minor problem anymore, not a door latch sensor issue- it's a real and significant (and dangerous) issue. hopefully the dealer doesn't give me the usual 'owner is an idiot' attitude and there's a TSB buried in their files somewhere that relates to this. I like my truck and it's unfortunate that this ignition key issue still exists, even after the original was replaced. I would add that another family member has the Eddie Bauer model from the same year and they needed to have the ignition assembly replaced within a month or 2 of mine- also in 2009. I've already warned them that if the interior lights start coming on that the issue is more serious than it appears

Okay - you may notice I also reported a transmission problem, so if you add to it, THIS problem, it is truly a miracle I didnt end up at the bottom of a river or ravine somewhere...lol

So Eddie Bauer Explorers have this super neat group of features of seat memory, pedal memory and courtesy seat backing. So it remembers where you like your seat, your pedal height and in case you like your seat super forward, it actually backs your seat up so you can get out and back in super comfortably.

Okay so this feature, as I discovered, runs off the ignition tumbler. So what do you think happened when the tumbler went bad ? YEP ! My seat rocked up and back like a boogie woogie choo choo train. And you can add the additional bonus of the interior lights coming on and off and on, well " Now its a party"

So, every time I went over a bump, or applied a fair amount of pressure on the brakes, the keys would start swinging, and the ignition would engage and disengage throwing the seat forward and backward, and throwing the interior lights on and off. HUGE SAFETY HAZARD ! Especially at NIGHT !

So, again I called Ford, again they did nothing, and again Im putting money out of my pocket for a car with 63000 miles on it. This issue is not quite as bad as the chevy cavalier issue with the ignition, but again, an inexperienced driver, or one without stroing quick reaction times will undoubtedly crash.

THE FIX : Bring it to the Ford dealer and have them replace the ignition tumbler. Problem solved, no more issues.

You hit a bump the lights come on and the seat moves. You have to push in on the key to get it to go back. This goes on and on all the time you are driving. Ford say they never heard of such a problem. Very dangerous. FORD IS NOW MAKING SH*T CARS. I will never buy a Ford again. I hope I can get rid of it before it kill me.
