driver seat moves b-f and dome light flashes while driving

Driving my kids home from Granny's and all of a sudden we hit a bump and the driver's side seat begins to move back and forth and the dome light flashes on and off. It was a chuckle at first since we were going like 5 mph in the subdivision. It was actually terrifying when it happened several more times on the main roads home going 55 mph. I finally get home, near tears, and tell my husband what happened. We jump online and Google the problem. It looks like this is a COMMON problem. Are you kidding me? WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL?! This is NOT SAFE!!!!

Sometimes while my wife is driving, the driver's powered seat moves back. When I drive I already have the seat back and is not a problem.

Driver's power seat changes position while driving resulting in inability to reach brake or gas pedal. At first, I thought I did something to cause it to happen or that I was starting to lose my mind lol but then it began to occur when I hit a bump or during turns. Tonight, I checked complaints and realized other drivers having same issue. This is truly a safety issue and can result in traffic fatalities. I also notice lights diming as if there is an electrical problem. My lumbar seat will not adjust either. I wanted to make sure there is documentation of this issue in the event something happens so my family can take action if there is an unfortunate event. It looks like this vehicle has been having this problem for years and the company has failed to take action. Very Disappointed, I've owned Fords all my life. Love their autos but no excuse for this negligence. I will contact Ford in the morning to see what responsibility they will take in this defect. Great vehicle but driver's/owners beware of possible problem and don't put it off like I did thinking that you are or something else is accidentally adjusting seat. There is a problem that needs repaired and I am blessed by God that He has protected me and others when suddenly my foot couldn't reach the gas/brake pedals when seat moved backwards while driving 70 miles/hour!!!

I was driving along when I hit a bump and the seat went all the way back suddenly. I couldn't reach the brake pedal and had auto manually pull the seat forward. Also, the dome light came on by itself when I braked hard.

I've had a handful of incidents in the past couple of months where the power seat started behaving erratically right after I started the vehicle. If I nudged the key back toward me slightly, it seemed to stop the issue temporarily. Earlier this week, I had to use my horn to get someone's attention when they were about to back into me as I was driving through a parking lot and when I hit the horn, the interior lights came on and the power seat moved backwards. I tried nudging the position of the key slightly like the other times and it seemed to work.

Tonight as I was driving home, someone stopped suddenly in front of me at a green light where we were both turning right. I tapped the horn since they didn't seem to see the green light and the same thing happened: my seat moved backwards, the lights came on - and this time, the engine died and all power turned off. Since I was in traffic and it was dark out, I immediately tried to restart it and it wouldn't start. I realized I was still in drive, so I put it into park and it took two tries to start it up again. I was incredibly lucky there wasn't someone right behind me when it died. I've never had any problems like this until this summer.

I will be taking it to the dealership to have them check the electrical system but any solutions or suggestions are welcome.

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer and I have the same exact problems as the others on this site with the seat moving by itself to the full rearward position while driving. What is worse is that it has movable pedals so my wife at 5'2" loses the ability to drive the truck when this happens intermittently. I narrowed the issue down to the ignition switch while shaking it while driving. The dome lights come on and the seat moves back. Very dangerous for my wife who uses this car every day to work in highway and bumper to bumper traffic. This is our fourth Explorer and the other three never had a problem. I contacted Ford and they issued a Case #.

Please be aware that if your driving a similiar vehicle, it could happen to you at any time and there is no way to get the seat back into postilion in time before you lose contact with the brakes.

This is awful for people who are short, my wife is 5' 2" and when the seat moved back when she was driving she couldn't reach the pedals. Lucky for her she didn't need to make an emergency stop. She was turning at a light and was able to get the seat back up in time to reach the pedals. Ford took no responsibility in something I see as a serious safety issue. I have two fords and am planning to get rid of both of them.

While I'am driving my 2007 Ford Explorer, if I hit a bump in the road or just make a turn my automatic seat will sometimes move me back from the position I am most comfortable driving in and further from the gas and brake paddles.. Since this does not happen all of the time and not knowing when it will happen it can really scare you. In-order for me to get back in the right position I have to touch the steering column just slightly and the seat will move back into place. Lately the interior lights started coming on also when this happens. I have taken all other keys off of my key ring thinking that the weight of the keys might be the problems but it did no make a difference. I 'am afraid that the car will just one day cut off while I'am driving, seems to be a problem with the steering column. I was told to switch keys with my husband and to keep setting the seat position each time I drive the car to see if that made a difference and to switch keys with my husband. Since I'am the only driver of this car I knew that his key or mine was not the problem. Finally the dealership is in the process now of checking to see if it is covered by the warrenty since they now think it has to do with the steering column and not the keys that sets the driver seat position, as they first told me it was. Would this fall under the steering column recall ?

One of the main reasons to buy this vehicle was power lumbar and seats due to low back injury. Now I am 6'1" and 230lbs but there is no reason this should stop working this soon. I only leave it in the full position and don't move it around. So now I have to drive around in pain because of a cheap little motor.

I have used the 3rd row seat less than 5 times in the life of the vehicle. The 3rd row seatbacks are power actuated using buttons in the cargo area. The seatback is split 50/50, so TWO motors are required, one for each half of the seat back. From day one, it has taken at least 45 seconds (holding down two buttons the whole time) for the seats to fold upward at a glacial pace! Now the gear in the motor on the left half of the 3rd row seat is stripped and the seat is stuck in the folded down position and can't be used!!! There is no way to manually fold it up, it's LOCKED down.

A motor from a salvage yard will run at least $200 and a new one is over $400! And they are just as likely to fail again because they are identical to the one being replaced.

My previous 2003 Explorer XLT has manual folding 3rd row seats. I could grab ahold of the latches and, with very little effort, open the seat up for use....and it took 10 secoinds or less!

I hate this heap...
