Shortly after purchase (new) I noticed the automatic transmission lurched/hesitated when shifting. I took it to the dealership and they supposedly checked/replaced the transmission solenoid(s). This seemed to reduce the hesitation/lurching slightly, but it still was noticeable and eventually got worse. The fact that leaving it with the dealership all day only to be called to pick it up after not being fixed, combined with service writers who pretend they don't hear/feel the problem or claim they can't get it to "act up" was enough for me to just choose to put up with it.

Well,I bought the 2005 Ford Explorer in April of this year for 13K, brought it home and it was fine then, I went to go back the thing up and it hesitated from shift into reverse. So took it back to Ewalds ford dealership. They checked the fluid and said it was overfilled, which they adjusted and reset the computer. Did not work the truck still did it. I brought it back again. They said I needed to drive 500 miles to get it to fix it. Still did not work. Took it back again....still there, they are trying to get the truck to do the park to reverse thing so they can figure it out. I tried trading the thing in but that did not work....I am disgusted and they should let me just get a new car, but they will not! Unbelievable! We will see what happens I guess...

for the past year my explorer refuses to go right away into reverse (takes 1 minute or so) then i put it in drive and wait another minute before it decides to move . also if you stop fast lets say for a red light good luck on moving right away another 1 minute and a lurch for it to catch again into gear . and one last beautiful thing if i hit a random bump its sounds all rough and makes a odd sound when pressing on the gas , if i pull over and turn entire car off and restart it it runs smooth again . its been going on for almost a year i finally took it to a very trusted guy who works in a garage in the back of his house and i now wait for the news on what it is going to cost me.

1.This is the first time a saw about the big problem of the Ford Explorer, transmission.. Hopefully, this will not cost me a lot of money. I only have 59000 miles and have changed transmission oil three times already. I hope, Ford will recall this transmission problem.

2. My other complain is the back plastic panel under the glass window had cracked already. I thought that when I closed the back door caused the crack. I have seen several Ford Explorer on the street with the same problem, there's crack on the back panel in the middle. Hopefully, this is also a factory defect.

I purchased this vehicle from a friend..35,000 km's, his wife was driving it for some time..told me there was a valve that needed to be changed in transmission, a simple procedure and it would fix a delay and hard shift when putting car in reverse...He took it to a tranny shop and they said everything was excellent. When I got it back it was still doing it and I noticed some other problems concerning shifting. I decided to do a little research and found this site and see the problem is common. I'm thinking I should take it to my own mechanic and have him check it out before it gets worse.

My wife drives this vehicle and she has told me that the car would jerk now and then when she would put it into gear. But when i would drive it, it wouldn't be anything to make a big deal about. but soon after our trip from las vegas the problem became more evident. The car started to jerk even more as you put it into reverse. it sounded like the bottom of the car is about to drop/break off. anyways, i ended up taking it in to where i usually take it. i told them to check the transmission and see if they could fix it. i came back later and they told me the transmission was pretty bad and that it would need to be replaced. they gave me three options. 1. buy a used, 2. rebuild one, or 3. buy a new one. i picked used, and i paid 2700 dollars because there was only one 4x2 trans. and that was not the worst of it. Come to find out, it was the torque converter and the drive shaft sticking that made the car jerk while putting it into gear or after coming to a complete stop and going forward you would feel the jerk as if the gear is not catching. The kicker is that the mechanic told me that he comes across the explorer with alot of problems with the transmissions. He also mentions that the torque converter should of been alittle larger. one made for a suv instead of a sedan. i don't know cars so i wouldn't be able tell you how true this is. So,not only did i pay for a transmission. i'm waiting on what its going to cost me to repair/replace the torque converter. If the ford company knows that they have bad cars they need to repair them and add extended warranty for all their products. funny how things just so happen to going down hill just when your warranty runs out, b--tards. as a matter of fact.. before the people / us government decide to bail out these big car manufacturer they need to get their act together and put out good products. and to think...i was doing my part in buying American cars...and their the ones sh-tting on you. the big car companies.

I bought my truck used in 2007. After about a year in a half my transmission went completely out on me . So I took it to ammco. They charged me 2500.00 dollars to do a complete rebuild on my truck .That rebuild lasted me about two years ,it went out on me about two months ago ,i just got it back the other day . Guess what, it is slamming hard into the first gear ,top end it changes fine .I just can not believe this ! Oh ! I have also replace the rear differential which cost me 1800.00 dollars .This truck is a nightmare ford should have had a recall on these transmissions .This is not right to do people like this .
