CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2005 Explorer has a very well-established record of expensive transmission failure at under 100k miles. The Explorer has an enclosed transmission which is typically replaced with a rebuilt transmission at a cost of almost $3,000.

Adding insult to injury, the 2002-2005 Explorer also has a massive problem with the rear panel cracking. While it's a minor annoyance compared to transmission failure, ironically the crack usually goes right through the Ford logo.

This has been a continual problem. I took into dealership when it was under warranty and they were unable to determine the cause and told me to just ignore the light.

Took truck in to have it checked cause the airbag light stays on. They checked sensors and all that fun expensive crap... guess what I'm told I'm alright, must be a glich! Hope I don't end up like the others when some idiot makes a bad choice and hits me.... or the opposite and it decides to smack me in the face while having a sip of coffee. Really thinking of going on a test drive at Toyota.
