The contact owns a 2000 Ford Explorer. The contact received a Ford recall notice for the vehicle speed control: Cruise control in August of 2007. He immediately called the dealer and was informed that the parts would be unavailable until December of 2007. The dealer also stated that he did not have to have his cruise control switch deactivated. Since that time, the contact has called the dealer on several occasions and they continue to state that the parts were unavailable. The manufacturer would not provide any information regarding the recall. The vehicle has not been repaired. There had been no failure to date. The recall number was unknown.
A recall was issued in August 2007 for the speed (cruise) control deactivation switch (recall 05S28). It is now April 2008 and I have not been contacted for the replacement part. Ford stated in their letter that their "commitment, together with Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers, is to provide you with the highest level of service and support." I think that after 8 months, a "reasonable time" has been exceeded. It has become frustrating and expensive having to wait this long for a simple fix. Ford Motor Company has displayed a failure to "provide me with the highest level of service and support." What has happened is, that Ford Motor Co. Has failed to produce enough parts to support this recall. They know how many vehicles were potentially covered with this recall and should have prepared to replace/service this part in a "reasonable amount of time". meanwhile, I have been forced to be inconvenienced and absorb additional expense due to Ford Motor Co.'s incompetence and short sighted.
In August 2007 I received a safety recall notice (05S28) for my 2000 Ford Explorer and have periodically been contacting the local Ford dealership but the necessary repair parts are still not available, 8 months later. The latest call earlier this week generated the usual response of "call back in 30 days." I'm reluctant to exercise the alternative of disconnecting the speed control system for fear of never getting the necessary repairs. The risk of a fire is a serious concern.

He was informed that the parts would be available in January of 2008 and would be notified when the parts would arrive. He called the dealer in March and had the cruise control switch disconnected. The contact was informed that the parts would be unavailable until June of 2008. He filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. There had been no failure to date. The recall number was unknown. The current mileage was 78,000.

Just about a year ago, Ford Corp ordered a recall #05S28 -speed control system modification for my 2000 Ford Explorer. After repeated inquires to my local Ford dealer, the "part" has still not arrived. I called Ford headquarters today, and they said perhaps in June. What can you do to help?
Speed control dis-engaged by pacific Ford, long beach ca, on 09/26/07, due to Ford recall letter Aug 2007. To date (03/03/08), the 05S28 recall has not been replaced. According to the dealership Ford has not filled the replace parts. I have waited an excess of 7 months to have this part replaced. This is unacceptable. Ford needs be better prepared and timely action must occur.
It is completely unacceptable that Ford issued a recall in August 2007 and the replacement part is still not available as of today 2/18/08. I was told by the dealership that Ford is telling them to tell owners to check back at the end of April 2008 for the speed control deactivation switch. I've been checking since Sept. 2007 when they told me to check back at the end of Jan. 2008. This is ridiculous!
Rec'd recall #05S28 from Ford Motor Company. Recall was for possible fire due to a leak in the cruise control. We rec'd this recall in August of 2007. We called dealer in klamath falls, or and put on a waiting list since the part to fix the recall was not available. We keep calling but the part is still not available. I use my cruise control all the time and am very concerned that my car may start on fire. I have grandchildren in car seats that I am afraid I might not be able to get out quickly enough. This is a totally unacceptable length of time to wait for it to be fixed when this is a safety issue. We tried calling the Ford Motor Co.customer service center and got a recording telling us to call our local dealer. We would appreciate your help with this matter.

He called the dealer again in December and they did not know when the parts would be available. The contact has filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. There had been no failure to date. The current mileage was 73,000.
Reported same issue to the NHTSA on Feb 1, 2005...on January 12, 2007, my husband was driving our Explorer to work. He accidentally bumped the cruise control and the car began accelerating rapidly. He was able to put the car in neutral and pull to the side of the road without incident and turn the vehicle off, but he was unable to start it up again, the battery was drained. A friend of ours came and gave him a jump start, the car turned on but the engine was revving and he couldn't get it to stop. They car was towed to a local mechanic and they found that the cruise control cable was stuck internally which was causing the cruise control to stick and made the car accelerate on it's own. They disconnected the cable from the throttle body to prevent this from happening again. I contacted Ford and spoke to a rep named frankie and filed yet another complaint, but they don't want to help us out at all. They want us to take the car to a dealer and pay for them to inspect the car.
Consumer 2000 Explorer cruise control does not work properly. ** answer required*** the consumer stated the cruise control was inoperative. ( the letter is written in spanish).
The consumer stated the cruise control became stuck. Consumer was driving on the freeway and set the cruise control at 75 mph. However, the vehicle kept accelerating although consumer had applied the brakes and the emergency brakes. Vehicle would not slow down. Had to circle the gas station 3 times before the vehicle would stop. Significant damage was done to the braking system. The consumer was injured. The mechanic told the consumer that the brakes caught fire but the fire went out soon after.
The cruise control switch shorted out. Sometimes it would work and then other times it would not work, and finally quit working altogether. Had it replaced by mechanic, had not contacted dealer or the manufacturer. Cruise control failed on June 1, 2005. The clockspring failed and caused the horn to activate intermittently.
Contact states 2000 Ford Explorer XLT fully loaded vehicle had been parked for 16 hours without being moved. At 5:00am. On 7-8-05 her car caught on fire. It was totally destroyed along with a laptop computer. The whole inside of the car was engulfed in flames. The fire department investigated the fire and said the fire seemed to originate from near the dash on the passenger side dash panel. She never received a recall notice.
2000 Ford Explorer was parked in front of the house. The consumers daughter saw T he vehicle on fire. The fire department said it was most likely a faulty circuit breaker.
Our 2000 Ford Explorer was sitting in the drive way for at least 3 hours and around 10:30pm (central), our neighbor came knocking at our door and told us that our Explorer was on fire. I am now with out a vehicle to go to work and the insurance did not pay off all of the vehicle. I now have to sacrafice to pay for something I do not have and save for another vehicle at the same time.
While driving approximately 55 mph with cruise control enabled, consumer applied the accelerator pedal to pass the vehicle in front. After passing the vehicle consumer applied the brakes and cruise control did not disengage. There was no accident, but the cause could not be determined.

The consumer slammed the vehicle into park going 50mph. Significant damage was done to the braking system. The consumer was injured. The mechanic told the consumer that the brakes caught fire and she was lucky the fire put itself out.
