Gas pedal bracket fell off the firewall of the vehicle.jamming up under the brake pedal almost caused and accident. I got the vehicle stopped by using the Emergency brake did a temporary repair to get my vehicle to a shop to see about having repair done. After the vehicle was at the shop and repair was done the garage had informed me of the pour weld condition from the the gas pedal bracket was installed. Said repair was in deed done by the shop with all new weld being done and adjusted. After looking online for gas pedal problems for these vehicles Ford needs to have a nationwide recall to repair or replace these before someone gets serious injury or even death from a accident

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Explorer. While driving approximately 60 mph the accelerator pedal assembly detached from the vehicle. He drove onto the emergency lane and parked the vehicle. While the vehicle was parked he was able to maneuver the accelerator pedal assembly into a position where he would still be able to drive. The vehicle was then taken to an independent repair shop where it was temporarily repaired. The failure and current mileages were 160,000. Updated 12/23/10 the dealer stated the weld broke off from the floorboard. Updated 01/03/11

I have a 99 Ford Explorer 4WD, eddie bauer edition. From time to time, the throttle will stick, especially when its cold. I can't replicate the stick reliably. When it sticks, I have to press extra hard on the throttle, resulted burst acceleration that could cause potential accident with the vehicle in front of me. I have to be extra careful when that happen when driving into my garage, which I always afraid that my Explorer would run into the wall. Contacted Ford dealer to see if there's any recall, they said they wanted $99 for the diagnostic but no guarantee. Ford said they had similar case, but it was on other models and not willing to go further unless I pay the $99.95 diagnostic fee. Like I mentioned before, I can't replicate the sticking throttle reliably, therefore the $99 diagnostic fee will go to waste because the Ford dealer would sure tell me there's no problem with throttle. Please let me/us (Ford Explorer driver) know if you have similar complaints filed in your database and what actions you are taking to resolve this issue. Thank you.

Weld that mounts the bracket that holds the accelerator pedal assembly to the firewall failed. This allowed the accelerator pedal assembly and bracket to fall to the car floor while driving and almost caused an accident. Dealer welded the bracket back to the firewall at considerable expense to myself.
