The contact owns a 1999 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the GEM controlled electronic function failed, which caused the windshield wipers to stop working. The dealer stated that they didn't know anything about in NHTSA campaign id number 00V072000 (electrical system:fuses and circuit breakers), although the failures were identical. The contact would be responsible for the repair costs. As of October 3, 2008, the vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 99,589. Updated 05/08/09. Updated 05/11/09.
: the contact stated the windshield wipers, power windows and ignition warning chime failed due to the GEM circuit. There is a NHTSA recall, # 00V072000, regarding the fuses and circuit breakers. The VIN was not included in the recall.
Experiencing windshield wiper problem.....wipers turn on without activating the switch, and sometimes I can't turn them on when its raining......a safety problem. A March 2000 recall #00V072000 did not include my VIN # therefore Ford will not pay for the repair. New multifunction switch installed by dealer at my expense. Recall should be expanded to include more vehicles.
Several problems with 1999 Ford Explorer eddie bauer edition. When the vehicle was turned right, the windshield wipers would come on, the right rear tire had blown, there was a whine noise, a leaking on the garage floor along with a burning smell when the vehicle was shutoff, it was discovered the front axle seal needed to be replaced. Check engine light had come on and the heat gauge showed hot, the dealer determined it was the thermostat. The engine surged, the light emitting the display had gone out, there was a problem with the right front hub assembly/axle seal.
The consumer states that there are problems with the left turn signal. The consumer states that the left turn signal was placed on, and stayed on for about 10 seconds and stopped blinking, but the arrow(left) was still illuminated. Immediately after smoke began coming from the steering column. The dealer suggested it was a fuse. The consumer feels there should be a recall.

Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component (00V-072) which caused the windshield wipers to fail, consumer is not able to receive recall repair due to dealership problems.
Upon pickup of vehicle after recall repair (00V-072), (99V-062), (99V-123), (99V-164) consumer notice a dent and scratched paint on the door of the vehicle.
Consumer gets two recalls regarding a secondary hood latch defect and the generic electronics module defect but consumer is not satisfied with the dealer and the recall procedures (99V-164) and (00V-072).
