This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving braking system malfunctioned. Vehicle had no braking ability, and had to use the emergency parking brake in order to stop. Also, dealer had to replace brake pads and shoes/ calipers and rotors. Passenger's front brakes seemed to be more worn out.
When vehicle was at 25000 miles dealer had to turn rotors. But consumer was concerned about why that work was done so early. Currently he is worried about warranty expiring.
While making a left hand turn at approx. 5-10mph vehicle lost all power in steering and braking systems and vehicle became uncontrollable and kept turning left into tree. Driver sustained minor injuries.
While driving on the highway came up on a red light, went to apply brakes and brakes failed to respond. Contacted dealer and manufacturer, out of warranty.
Vehicle won't disengauge and accelerated up to 75 mph. Pushed the cruise control button, and vehicle kept accelerating. Applied the brakes, and vehicle went up to 80 mph.
Ongoing problem with ABS system; whenever brake pedal is applied in an emergency situation/sudden stop or slamming on brake, it causes vehicle to skid and fishtail to the right. Dealer notifed and informed consumerthat nothing could be found. Can NHTSA provide information weather this is normal or not.
Consumer was driving at 20 mph when suddenly a stop was required, and consumer struck vehicle in front due to failure of the anti-lock brake system. When brake pedal was applied, anti-lock braking system did not respond properly. Dealer has bee contacted.
When driving at 75 to 80 mph and applying the brakes, vehicle accelerated at high speed. When vehicle got down to 50 mph, consumer removed the cable from cruise control, put the vehicle into netural and turned off ignition, and coasted vehicle to side of the road. Then the vehicle came to a stop.
While driving driver stepped on brake pedal to stop vehicle, but brakes failed and vehicle didn't stop. Consumer said, he had taken vehicle three times to dealer for repairs, and still has same problem.
This is the second time, that L have told this department about this brake problem with my 98 Ford Explorer. My first complaint was some time in July of this year. The dealer has cut the front rotors once at 9000miles all highway driving and rplaced the rotors at 18000. The ABS system is not working the way it should, L just experienced this on the 20th of this month, in portland me. After you have applied the brakes and are stitting for awhile with the brakes applied and then you release the brakes and then if you have to stop real quickly the ABS system will not function the way it should. What you end up with is that you do'nt have any brakes at all and you crash.
EA99001; intermittently when about to make a stop, the vehicle idles up to 6000 RPM, and becomes impossible to stop. Consumer turns off the vehicle so that she won't have an accident. Been to the dealer, they cannot determine problem. Cruise control has been disconnected.
Throttle pedal continually sticks when initially engaged in either drive or reverse. Causes lunge in direction of travel if driver unaware of defect. Submitted to dealer twice, still not repaired. Poor seatbelt design has driver's seatbelt continually stuck in drivers door upon exit from vehicle. Rear passenger window scrapes and makes noise during operation. Dealer did not fix when initially brought up after initial purchase. ABS light intermittently appears during driving. Dealer noted code of 1924 but had no response for problem. Not resolved. Dissapointed with quality of vehicle for $$ paid.
