This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
My 1997 Ford Explorer has an intake manifold failure. I understand by reading many message boards and other complaints on the internet that Ford has recalled this item on some vehicles but not all. I really can't believe that Ford would actually use a plastic intake on anything. I believe it is a break down in judgement and Ford should be responsible for the replacement of this part.
Consumer is a victim of odometer fraud, encountering problems with the vehicle that's uncharacteristic for the mileage on the vehicle. (nar) exhaust system, ball joint, and instrument panel had to be replaced.
Engine surging when cold. I have had the codes read and will not tell what the problem is. Poor gas mileage. Valves rattling when start up of engine for several secounds and then stops rattling. Black sutt in exhaust pipe.
Drivers door lock not working properly, gasket cylinder front cover, torque converter shudder, catalytic converter, rt bank exhaust manifold; these problems have been corrected, but new ones mount every week. Now there is a problem with the steering, being checked tomorrow.
Upper and lower engine intake gaskets are leaking, causing air to enter into the cylinder, resulting in engine idling erratically and eventually no start.
