Since purchase of vehicle in 1998 following components had to be replaced: Transmission/fuel pump/ all 4 tires blew and not on recall/ cruise control/ radio quit, and no longer able to buckle drivers seat belt.
While traveling with cruise control on and trying to exit, tried to release cruise control, but vehicle accelerated on its own, resulting in a multi vehicle collision/wreck similar to recall 95V052000.
Firestone 7515 garners ferry rd, cola SC 29209 did following repairs:05/22/00 alternator, 05/01/00 both rear calipers & drums, 02/15/00 eet/eec sensors, including temp sending unit, egr valve, coolant temp sensor08/07/99 front driver side lower control arm, ball jt, alternator and horn. I purchased new tires 09/15/00. I removed Goodyear tires pulliam put on my truck 08/27/98.
Throttle binds on initial take off causing abrubt accelleration. Due to throttle body valve sticking. Newsgroup autos.makers.Ford.Explorer has confirmed numerous similar complaints.

When traveling with cruise control engaged, and upon depressing the accelerator pedal, there was continuous acceleration. Also, while attempting to press the speed control button off, button would not disengage, causing continuous acceleration. Consumer has contacted the dealer.
While merging into rush hour traffic, the throttle stuck at 3000 RPM. When the brakes were applied, it was not enough to slow the car. After 1 mile, the accelerator was finally freed which allowed me to finally regain control of the vehicle. Ford says this item is not covered under any existing recalls.
As I drive the Explorer on the highway or at any speeds for longer periods of time(200+ miles), engine check light comes on, and the horsepower is affected. Gas mileage decreases to about 8 mpg, and this lasts for as long as the vehicle is driven. I have had the transmission replaced, and I have changed the spark plugs, the spark plug wires, the mass air-flow sensor, the fuel filters and the alternator. The problem is still occurring though. I would like to get the problem fixed so as to feel safe in this vehicle.
Whle driving down a major highway vehicle suddenl accelerated at approximately 80 mph. Driver had foot on the brakes, but the vehicle would not slow down. Had to get to road side and cut vehicle off.
While drivng the vehicle suddenly went into open throttle position, rpms unknown, shut the engine off, waited a few seconds, turned the ignition on again and the accelerator was still in open throttle position.
Upon pressing accelerator pedal and while accelerating onto hwy. Experienced throttle sticking, stayed in wide open position, causing excessive engine speed and power, had to pull up pedal with hand to decelerate on two occasions, has been fixed.
