I took my Expedition for its 5,000 mile oil change at a local Ford dealer. Ford did not reveal any problems with the vehicle. At 10,000 miles, I took the vehicle to my normal mechanics at Kirkwood Auto. They changed the oil and noted all four struts are leaking. They provided pictures of the struts. I went back to the Ford dealer. They confirmed the struts are leaking. I advised I wanted them replaced. They advised there is a TSB advising they are aware of the problem and researching a fix, but for the mean time the issue is to be “monitored”.

I don’t want the struts monitored, I want them replaced. I didn’t pay $60k for a new vehicle to have the struts leaking which could result in more issues for the vehicle. FIX THE DAMN THING!

2018 Ford Expedition FX4 loaded. Under 10,000 miles rear shocks leaking and had to be placed.

Then, at 25,000 miles during oil change reported ALL 4 struts/shocks leaking and must be replaced.

They are supposed to be heavy duty with FX4 package. No off-road use. No towing. No heavy loading. Careful large city and highway driving. Careful break-in and no hits, hard contacts, or other impacts or conditions. Replaced/replacing with OEM from Ford as told no other option. But if defective then likely the replacement parts will be defective as well. $65,000 vehicle. 55 years of owning many vehicles including 2 Wrangler, 3 4X4 Honda Pilot, 4X4 Nissan, Mercedes, etc., never had any shock leaks at any mileage or with any use including towing and off roading. Ford must be buying defective china made parts.

In any event, Ford has known about this problem (reported not limited to 4x4s) for years and should EASILY been able to obtain decent struts/shocks that do not leak.

If I go off roading, tow, or even under regular usage, struts/shocks will have to be replaced regularly after warranty expires.
