The contact owned a 2017 Ford Expedition. While the contact's spouse was driving 40 mph, the front driver's side rim exploded without warning. The explosion caused fragments to perforate the air bag sensors. The driver and passenger in the vehicle were struck by flying debris, which came up from under the hood of the vehicle. The driver was rendered unconscious from the impact. The vehicle then veered off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole. The driver and four other passengers in the vehicle sustained concussions that required medical attention. The contact was unsure if a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard and deemed destroyed. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
