all lug nuts swollen all lug nuts swollen all lug nuts swollen

Took car to dealership for 60,000 mile check up and tire rotation. service person recommended changing the lug nuts because they loose their appearance after time. What he should have said is that they have an aluminum cover that swells up over time and you won't be able to manually get them off if you have to change the tire which is exactly what happened 1 week later. I had a flat tire and after lowering the spare tire down, jacking up the car and we tried to remove the lug nuts, we could not get the last one off, even with a power wrench and the lug nut wrench would not even fit over the swollen lug nut. This occurred at night during a rain storm.

Decided since we couldn't change the tire, we would have to repair it. Found the nail in the tire, had to put the lug nuts back on, take car off the jack, roll the car back and remove the nail to patch it, only to find out that the rubber cement had dried out and was worthless. Had to call my daughter that lived 40 minutes away to go to Wal-Mart and pick up some rubber cement so we could use the tire patch to plug the hole. Finished the patch around midnight so I could go to work in the morning. Now I have to buy new lug nuts and find someone to replace them before the next flat tire.

Cheap lug nuts. Sounds petty until you consider the time, tools, and money it takes to remove and replace all 24 swollen/warped lug nuts. Should not have to replace every lug nut at 60,000 miles.
