There are spots of rust all over the liftgate. They are from the inside coming through, lifting the paint. At 4 years old I took it to the dealer. He quoted the warranty which said they will only fix it if the rust is all the way though! If I were a liar I would have taken it home and made the holes come through. Instead I did not and now a year later of course there are even more spots, none have come through and the warranty is up, 5 years and only 70,000 miles. What a crock!!!! This is the second Ford I have had with liftgate rust issues. The other was an Escort wagon form 1980. I had thought in 31 years they would have figured out the design flaw. I do not believe they ever tried. When my wagon would not pass inspection I had a friend with a garage call junk yards. Not one had a liftgate. Clearly a design flaw. Quality is job 1?

CORROSION UNDER PAINT ON REAR CARGO DOOR WHERE HANDLE ATTACHES. PAINT HAS BUBBLED UP LIKE A BLISTER. AS A AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND A YACHT OWNER I KNOW THIS TO BE IMPROPER PREPARATION OF ALUMINUM SURFACE BEFORE PAINTING. ESPECIALLY WHERE DISSIMILAR METAL PART AT ATTACHED. THIS IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP. THIS IS NOT DUE TO MOISTURE AS THE VEHICLE HAS MEN GARAGED SINCE NEW.

I SEE A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN THE MAKING. I HAD MY DEALER TAKE PICTURES AND SEND A REPORT TO FORD MOTOR CO. THE DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY. VERY BAD CUSTOMER RELATIONS.

Found the vehicle to have cancer- blistering paint on the steel/aluminum where they combine them both. Hood and tailgate, Ford wants to put a bandage over it. Had a company do the work came out great, they put a clause in the paperwork they don't and wont warranty the work since FORD KNOWS they have a contamination issue. Well then just put a new dam hood on and tailgate for 4500.00 then paint it again. The paint lasted all but 4 months. Cancer is back - Same spots- Ford giving the run around of fixing the dam thing. Customer service at Ford Corporation- Total Bullshit - He's a jackass. Man up FORD... this guys is getting a GMC next time. Sad but true... have plenty of photos in case you folks need to see.

have a 2011 ford expedition, 27000 miles. in service for 17 months, rear hatch bubbling around handle and inside the vehicle around the area where the metal was crimped together. no rust, just bubbling up the paint and clear coat, ford said it was environmental. no coverage..however I pointed out that no other surfaces have been affected. that the damage was bubbling from inside out. not outside in. I appealed the first decision, waiting for a second ruling. 3 body shops confirm this is not environmental, but a paint defect , or contamination of the aluminum .

I noticed the paint starting to bubble on the bottom of the lift gate near the handle. I took it into my dealership who said they have seen this already and is becoming a more common problem. They took it to their body shop to do an estimate on having the rust "fixed" - that was about $3,500! They took some pictures and sent it into Ford Canada and I was rejected for warranty repair. I called Ford Canada to speak to them about what (if any) options I had as the thought of having to spend $3500 to have the rust fixed on a 3 year old vehicle was absolutely ridiculous. I was given 3 answers:

12months/20,000km – warranty on paint

3yrs/60,000km – warranty on paint and corrosion

5yrs/unlimited km – warranty on rust/paint perforation

So the answer which I concluded I received from Ford Canada which applied to me (because I have 72,000km on the truck) was to wait (and hope?!) that it starts to rust really, really bad and really really fast before January 3, 2016 - rust so bad that a hole appeared in it - THEN they would fix it under warranty for me. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I will sell this truck before I wait and hope it rusts faster as I refuse to spend $45,000 on a truck only to have it rust 3 years later and depreciate that much faster. They know this is a problem and yet they don't do anything to remedy what will become incredible customer dissatisfaction. It's a shame because I love this truck, it works so well for my family and I am (and possibly was) a huge fan of Ford. It's funny because I have a 1999 Mercury Cougar that JUST started to rust. That has been the best vehicle I have ever owned... now I have to rusty vehicles sitting in the garage!
