SUV performance was badly degraded. Received code P0375 Knock Sensor Circuit Failure. After looking behind the alternator in the valley of the motor with a flashlight, I was able to see where the Knock sensor wires had been chafing on the side of the engine block. Replacement of these knock sensors requires intake manifold removal.
It's not too bad of a job if you are mechanically inclined. These vehicles have (2) knock sensors in this same location. My recommendation would be to replace them both with a quality sensor. If you are going to do it yourself, TIP: There is a very short vacuum tube on the drivers side/rear intake to be mindful of, and the engine bay wiring harness is held on to the back of the manifold with a 10mm nut.
