Engine began knocking and sounding like a diesel, in addition to a hesitation under acceleration. Researched and found cam phasers going bad on the Ford modular V8 to be common. Took to Ford dealer, sure enough cam phasers are bad. $1,200 later the knocking has stopped, but the misfire/hesitation under acceleration continues.
