I LOVE my Ford Expedition. It has been a perfect car for my lifestyle. I love the leather seats - but they aren't any good without an engine. I love the turning radius - that too is no good without an engine. I love the room for all of my stuff - but that is no good without an engine. I love the comfort, convenience, look, and overall function of this vehicle - which all sucks because it doesn't have an engine!
I bought the car new, off the lot, paid cash. It went from the dealer to having a upgrade on the towing system. After that, no one EVER opened the hood, save to give people a jump, except my dealership until this little adventure. I followed all the suggested maintenance, had all of the checks done at the appropriate miles, and in conjunction with my service manager took outstanding care of this vehicle.
At 118,000 miles the coils went out. The check engine light started flashing and the car was running rough. The Ford shop changed some coils and spark plugs. I went on a long trip. My lovely vehicle started to hesitate going uphill. The check engine light came on and remained on. After reaching my destination I had two more coils replaced. (Second time anyone other than my dealer did anything to the car). I didn't make it 20 miles when the whole process started again. I managed to drive it home 250 miles keeping it bellow 2000 RMP and in cruise control with little issues. I took it back to my dealership. I was informed that my nine year old, 45,000 dollar vehicle with 118,000 miles on it needs a new engine for an estimated cost of $8,500. I got fried cylinders. REALLY????
I planned on keeping this vehicle for another 10 years and bought it with that in mind. This Expedition should easily go 250,00 with minor issues. I realize some stuff is going to puke but the ENGINE???? Now it is sitting in my driveway while I figure out if I want to break up with it or not.
I love my Expedition. I love everything about it - except the fact that it needs an engine. I guess that is common with this year vehicle. So mad. I guess when you buy a vehicle a satisfactory engine doesn't always come with it. Go figure.
