I had my truck stall while driving on the highway. A semi truck nearly missed us while trying to pull on the side of the highway. It was a very scary experience. My 9 year old boy was in the back. It was very hard to steer the truck. This incident almost cost my son's life and mine. I'm very upset that something like this has not been brought up to our attention. I will never buy another Ford ever again.

Purchased this vehicle in 6/12 and was told that it previously had a bad jerk/sputtering problem. He thought the transmission was going bad and had it serviced. Did NOT fix the problem. Took it to the shop and they recommended replacing plugs and coils. He paid $480 and seemed to fix the problem and was honest about selling before something else happened that he couldn't afford. Two weeks ago I had the first engine stall after backing out of the driveway. Didn't think too much of it. Then, a couple days later it stalled at a stoplight. Started to worry. Eliminated first and least expensive problem by changing fuel filter. No change in condition. Now, it stalls in idle giving no gas, and when you take it out of park and are giving it gas. No check engine light has ever come on. I'm about to have surgery and can't afford shop repairs, so it will sit until I can. Have read where so many people have replaced throttle body's and fuel injectors and fuel pumps but haven't taken time to fill out complaints. Something is definitely wrong with these vehicles to have so many stalling out problems. I have a Chevy 5 years older with 85,000 MORE miles than this vehicle and have NEVER had it stall. This makes it painfully obvious I need to stick with GM vehicles. As soon as I can afford to have repaired it is sold. I learned my lesson from Ford!

the part being replaced is a terrible design. you should not but this part behind the rear tire. this part has a circuit board that can not get wet but the placement of this part causes it to corrode which allows the board to get wet and short circuit. this then causes the fuel pump to shut down.

I was on the I-90 headed from Erie, PA to Cleveland in a snow storm. I arrived in Clevelandb and headed down a side street and the truck shut off and ran the battery down trying to start. I jumped the battery, but eventuality had AAA to tow home. I checked the fule shut-off reset switch as well as #12 fuse and all were ok! Should I have it towed to dealer or consider changing fule pump and if so -how much would that cost?

Help!

When we were on the highway, all of a sudden i noticed the car slowing down and then starting to stall out the check engine light went on also. i pulled to the side of the road and then restarted the vehicle. it took a couple of tries and then it started. it seemed to lose a little power and i noticed it did not sound right. it sounded like it was skipping or missing then it felt like it was going to stall again. my husband pulled out the manual and began reading it. we stayed at a constant speed of 60mph being on the highway and prayed we would make it home (it was about 10pm). We made it home and i called the FORD dealer here in Las Vegas, NM. they said it was the spark plugs and that they all needed to be replaced. i went to Checker and Autozone and they checked it and they said it was not the coils and it may be sparkplugs or sensors because there had already been 4 FORDS this had happened to already and they all did tune-ups and still problem is there. i changed spark plugs and still problem is there. i have it parked in my back yard and do not have money to continue the "experimenting" on it. i am not sure what to do. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had this throttle body problem and transmission all at once just before 100,000 miles and end of my warranty. Ford "rebuild" transmission and fix other problem. at 115,000 transmission fell again and stall problem occurred again. Ford said since I was out of my original 100,000 warranty and "fix" warranty of 10,000 miles that it was my problem to pay to get fixed. So $2500 dollars and transmission is working well still have to fix stall 'throttle body' problem which I have since found out that ford did nothing to fix simply reset system. So basically they avoided problem until it is out of warranty. Can get it fixed for 600 dollars. Think I'll just and let it keep stalling. If something serious happens my insurance company can deal with ford. I can't afford the money.

This has happened several times to my wife's car. She told me the other day the car stopped running in the middle of the road. She noticed it because it was hard to steer. She pulled over and it started right up. She told me it has happened 3 or 4 times in the past. This time the check engine light stayed on. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said the throttle body was cracked. They replaced the throttle body and motor assembly and $600 later here we are. She was very lucky this hasn't happen on the highway.

Expedition XLT 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 43,000 miles

Engine stalled on 4 separate occurrences in past 5 months (started at about 43,000 miles). Problem has occurred more frequently in past month (2x). When I am pulling out of a parking lot or similar situation (quick acceleration from a stop), engine stalls (wrench and engine light turns on) I turn car off, wait 1 minute and engine starts again with no problem. Engine light stays on. If I disconnect battery and reconnect, engine light turns off. I thought it was with lower fuel levels, but it happened with nearly a full tank also. As other complainants indicated, this is a huge safety issue and I will be discussing it with my Ford dealer during my next oil change in a few weeks. I have heard various sources of the problem, one being, carbon buildup affecting a sensor??. For comparative purposes, I do mostly short distance, city driving and I get my (87 octane) gas exclusively at Sam's Club.

Update from Aug 8, 2009: UPDATE: I had an oil change and problem has not occured in past 2 months. I have heard from several people that the oxygen sensor is a prime suspect. So.. try an oil change every 3,000 miles, not 5,000 like I did.

While driving my 2005 Expedition, engine FAILS- there is 1 short "Beep" and dashboard reads "Engine Failure". This is a happening again and again no matter how fast or slow. This is extremely dangerous. There must be a RECALL on this problem. The mechanic already know about this problem, and it seems to happen a lot.

WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP, I WAS TOLD THAT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAD REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM.the body throttle needs to be replaced, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. I AM A SINGLE PARENT WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO SHELL OUT $600.00 DOLLARS FOR THE HELL OF IT. IF IT IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL MADE!
