Expedition Eddie Bauer 3.5L V8

This is the second time that my Expedition has stalled because of the throttle body failing. The engine goes into "safe mode" and stalls and stops. It doesn't matter if you are on the interstate going 70 or on residential going 35, you don't even have time to really get off the road. It is so dangerous because how fast your car comes to a stop. The gas pedal disengages and the car is still running but will not move forward. It is a defect and needs to be corrected on hundreds of thousands of vehicles including all the trucks also. I just got the throttle body replaced today, $700 and hope that I do not have this problem again, but Ford cannot guarantee that it won't happen again. I am really scared of my truck now. As much as I love my Expedition, I don't think I will be buying another Ford.

2005 Expedition Eddie Bauer, I am the original owner of the car and love it with the exception of the faulty problem with throttle body position sensor.

I noticed the problem in the first couple of years after I bought the car. The car would stall during slow speed, idle at the stop light or take off from the stop. I took the car back to the dealer and told them about the problem, after the service adviser check my vin number. I was told the problem I'm encountering was not a recall from Ford because it is not life threatening, and if I want to get it fix I would have to pay for it myself, so I just let it go (the problem still happened occasionally).

Until yesterday morning(3/10/15) when I almost got rear-ended when the car die on me after taking off from stop light. I went to looked in the Ford forum, and I notice that other people have the same problem that I have . I read that one lady had her car stall on her on freeway, and the NHTSA had closed the investigation after Ford agreed to fix about 1,600,000 cars and SUV's.

I called Ford customer satisfied program hoping they can help fix my car. Instead I was told to take my car to the ford dealer shop to have diagnostic. I did take my car to get diagnostic done today(3/11/15), and they told me it was going to cost me almost $1000.00 to change the throttle body and program the ECP. I don't believe that I should be liable for a factory defect and I should not have to pay for it. Speaking of life threatening, what can be more life threatening than a car stalling in the fast lane on a freeway.

I believe that Ford should step up and get this problem fixed before somebody loses a family member and I am going to file complaint with NHYSA and call the media..

Expedition Eddie Bauer

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

I have a 2005 Expedition Eddie Bauer. I was driving down the road going about 50 mph when I received a check engine throttle message. The engine stopped and so did the power steering and brakes. I had to get over two lanes of the highway and barely avoided an accident.

I took it to a local Ford Dealer and was told that the Throttle Body needed to be replaced. They replaced at a cost of nearly $700. I started researching this issue on the internet and have found hundreds of similar complaints. I've contacted the NHTSA as well as Ford and there is no recall at this time.

This could be a potentially deadly error on Ford's part. I'm starting a class action lawsuit and I am looking for other owners that have had the same issue. You can contact me at jschmidt122@comcast.net. I am also starting a website to help other owners get more information about this issue. The site is www.FordExpeditionRecall.com. Please feel free to contact me if you want more information on this problem or have any questions. Thanks Jason Schmidt

Oct 012008

Expedition Eddie Bauer V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

The notification to check electronic throttle came on as I was turning on to a main highway and the car died on me. Did it two times the same day, just grateful I was able to coast over in a emergency lane. Brought it to dealership in Oct. 2008, supposedly they fixed it. Again in Sept. 2009 the problem started again this time it was it a heavy traffic area very dangerous, took it back to the dealership (which then the warranty was up), they said they couldn't see any thing wrong and stated that even though it was fixed the year before that this could happen possibly on a yearly basis and would cost a lot to fix it. Again, Jan. 2010 it did it again several times, and the last two days it has done the same thing again during on going traffic in the end of work day. This problem is a very dangerous issue and seems to be an on-going problem.

What is it going to take before FORD will acknowledge this is a serious problem and should have a recall on this issue. Is it going to take a death because of this problem.

I have seen 183 complaints in the last year with this problem.

What is the solution?
