Contact states 2000 Ford Expedition burnt in November 2003. She had car serviced 3 days prior to the car burning. It was contained under the hood. She received a recall letter from Ford in February 2005 about the cruise control switch on her vehicle. She called Ford 6 times, the last time was on 5-11-2005. They recorded contact's information and told her they will pass it on to the legal department. However, they did not give contact a telephone number to the legal department. They claimed that someone will get back to contact, within 3-4 business days. Thus far no one contacted her.
2000, Ford, Expedition, vehicle was parked in front of consumer's home when it caught on fire, the vehicle had not been operating since the previous day, the fire department was notified. Fire investigator said the cause of the fire was cruise control disconnect switch, in August of 2004 consumer took the vehicle to the Ford dealer because the steering wheel was lost which caused the vehicle to be uncontrollable, the dealer said it was because of the front tires, this was the only problem consumer had with the vehicle until it caught on. Fire, the fire also caused damage to consumer' S home.
A week ago the alternator light and ABS light began to flash while the vehicle was being driven. It then died, this happed on Thursday. The alternator was draining the battery. The battery has been replaced twice since Thursday. The vehicle caught on fire two weeks ago while being driven. The fire was put out by the owner. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer under recall for the cruise control. The vehicle is now in the dealership service department. Dealer is now trying to determine the root of the battery and alternator problem. The owner feels this may be linked to the original cruise control recall.
Consumer states that her 2000 Ford Expedition was parked for no more than a half an hour and vehicle caught on fire. They put fire out with water. They thought it was because they changed a fuse, but when the vehicle was taken to the dealer, they told them they didn't know why it happened. Consumer was reporting this because of the recent report of Ford problems.
Consumer was parked in front of house. After about 2-1/2 hours consumer noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood. Consumer then unhooked the cruise control wires because consumer noticed that was the part causing the smoke. No previous incidents. Vehicle is serviced regularly. This happened about middle of the day.

Consumer went on vacation to return home and find that their Ford Expedition had burned, the engine compartment was completely gone and the inside was gutted. Fire department stated that the fire started in the front engine area. There were no indication whatsoever that anything was wrong with this vehicle. The vehicle had regular multi-point inspections. Later consumer finds that Ford has had problems (per channel 7 local news) with cruise control issues. After this happened, Ford was notified, but wouldn't talk to consumer. The ABS light illuminated, the dealer replaced the ABS sensor. A worn idler arm caused noise and vibration in the front end. The check engine light illuminated.
Truck started smoking and caught on fire in parking lot. The fire occured prior to the consumer receiving the recall notice for the faulty cruise control which caused the fire. The truck was totaled.
The consumer stated that a recall was made on the vehicle for the cruise control. The consumer called the dealership and was told to bring the car in which was in feburary, the consumer was told that parts would arrive in April, the consumer called the dealership last week and was told the part was there and to bring the car in today, which was done. When the consumer arrived at the dealership, the part had been given to another customer. The next closest dealer was 73 miles away. The service manager told the customer that they did not know when the next part would arrive.
Took car to dealer for fire cruise control switch wire shoted out. Car was sitting still was not running when it caught on fire, getting no cooperation from dealer or manufacturer.
2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire while parked.** answer required***. the fire started at the cruise control deactivation switch. 4 months later, the consumer received a recall notice regarding the cruise control deactivation switch.
Upon receiving recall 05V170000 concerning cruise control deactivation switch vehicle caught on fire. Consumer contacted Ford, and was told they could not talk to him.
NHTSA recall # 05V017000/engine compartment fires: The consumer was unable to get the dealer to honor this recall. The dealer keeps informing the consumer that no parts are available.
Vehicle was parked for about three hours when all of a sudden it caught on fire on its own. This seemed to be a similar problem to the cruise control switch catching fire.
Ford Expedition 2000 recall for fire the consumer believes the 2000 for Expedition should be recalled for the faulty cruise control switch which may cause fires.
Re ltr rec'd from Ford to have the cruise control disconnected in Ford Expedition. The consumer has not gotten her cruise control disconnected yet because she doesn't feel a great sense of urgency.
Ford recall # 05S28 calls for the disconnection of the cruise control module. This also disconnects the horn. It is a state law in Illinois that each vehicle have a horn that can be heard from 200 feet. I have contacted Ford three times, and been to the dealership twice, neither time receiving an answer to this problem.
A recall (05V017000) for the cruise control was issued, however the dealer states the parts are not available so they disconnected the cruise control cable. As a result the horn is inoperable. Please provide additional information.
