Follw up on letter dated Oct. 7, 2002 1999 Ford Expedition. Nvs-216, mek, ref. # 567329. No components mentioned. The consumer called into the hotline to indicate that the engine was replaced because of a snapped intake valve that was laying against the piston.
While driving at 45 mph gas pedal went down to the floor by itself, suddenly accelerating. Consumer drove out of the road, and turned off the ignition switch. Called the triple aaa, towed to gas station. Dealer inspected, and could not duplicate or correct the problem.
Engine sputtered while at a stop, consumer applied more gas to keep vehicle running. Accelerator pedal got stuck and vehicle took off. Consumer was unable to slow down vehicle, it hit a goup of trees.(speed unknown) consumer suffered injuries to her back. Vehicle was totalled.
When stepping on the gas from a complete stop the car loses power and neraly stalls. Once when accelerating on an on-ramp the car nearly stalled and once when starting from a complete stop the car did stall. The dealer cannot duplicate this problem and seems unwilling to try too hard. They said that they spoke with Ford and Ford said that there were no other complaints like this. It has happened to both drivers of the vehicle. And it has happened approx. 25 times. It has been in the service dept. At the dealer four times and still not fixed!
