This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
1998 Ford Expedition 5.4L V8 engine, spark plug from cylinder#3 blew out of head causing damage to cylinder head and ignition coil. Cleaned out threads with tap of same size, which are impossible to see in tight area of engine compartment and installed new spark plug but it blew out again two days later.
I have a 1998 Ford Expedition 5.4L engine. At under 50000 miles a spark plug blew right out of the cylinder. Head and stripped the threads. Repairs included a new cylinder head. Ford recommends spark plug change at about 100000 miles. The issue is a defective design of the aluminum cylinder head only having a few turns of thread to hold in a spark plug under compression.
While driving at any speed the vehicles engine shuts off. Consumer states' vehicle will not restart for several days. Ford has replaced the computer module and the theft system and problem keeps reoccurring.
Repeated problem that has escalated to a suggested engine replacement. The #4 coil has been repaired 10 times. The vehicle warranty and extended warranty have been exhausted. Ford has repeatly failed to find the real problem. The customer service department representatives and supervisor have said that there's nothing Ford can do about my problem. "it's the Ford policy."
Dealership says oil leak due to engine block being mis-cast. Dealership recommends new engine to fix the problem. Heads could be replaced but problem would reoccur again. This problem has occurred in many engines and Ford is aware of this but is offering no help with the cost of replacement or recall on the engine to anyone but those who have Ford extended warranties. This is the original engine that was put in the truck. The defect has always been there and is not something that has occurred over time. Cost of new engine approximately $4,500.
The engine consistently cuts out when placing the transmission into reverse. Its been back twice, but no trouble found. It happens when in traffic and has nearly caused rear end collisions. No particular action causes this, just come to a stop and put it in reverse.
Parts of rubber kept coming off, engine kept loosing to much oil but claimed they could not find why. Has done this since I bought it now find the problem the intake is busted can not pay to fix it. Never get recall notices. No safety defect.
Windows- all power windows occassionally will not let up if down or down if up. Engine- when stopped, gives an intermitten vibration. Child locks- engages when unlock power locks. Turn signal- if steering wheel not straight, can't engage turn signal. Tires- making sound as if they will peel off at any moment. (tiresize: P255/70R16)( dot number: Tire size: P255/70R16 )
