dome light and running board lights stay on, and door ajar indicator light is on. first take some tranny fluid and pour it into the door locks inside the doors and then push the locks up and open them again to make sure the fluid gets into the doors good. then open and close the doors about 5 to 6 times. then just wipe up the fluid that will run out the bottom of the door and you're done. I had this problem and the lights would not go out I then searched the problem on the net and found this site. I seen everyone else said to use wd-40 and I did not have any so I had some extra tranny fluid so said hell with it I will give it a try well guess what it worked, and worked so damn good that the lights nor the door ajar has come back on since. so if you have this annoying problem then just give some tranny fluid a try and you will be surprised to see it works and you wont have to take it to the shop, all you have to do is spend about $3. LOL hope this helps.
OK, Everybody, I thought I would eventually pull my hair out. Believe it or not, the WD40 does work. My interior lights has been on and that dinging sound has been going off for the past 2 hours. It was driving me nuts, so I got on the computer and started researching and found this site. Well someone up here said that the WD40 does not work. I just tried it and the lights went off and the dinging sound stopped. BUT! when I used the WD40 only on the passenger side latch and shut the door, nothing happened, I opened it back up and push the latch in a downward position, as far as it can go and shut my door again and HELL YEAH, it stopped. Dont know how long it will last but atleast this works for now to stop killing my damn batteries so quick. Good Luck everybody. I hope it works for you guys as well!
I purchased the 1998 Expedition XLT package from a dealer in Maryland (program vehicle) used in 1999 with 12,000 miles under warranty to 36,000 miles. I reached that mileage in about 15 months of driving. The vehicle always had the same electrical issue of the interior light and ignition chime sounding when the door was closed and the auto lock activated in drive. The dealer took one crack at it under warranty and stated there was no issue. It still does the same thing today, mostly during cold weather and the vehicle has almost 200,000 miles on it. I have other issues with the engine, auto tranny and suspension that I will post seperate.

Driver's side door is DOOR AJAR all the time. Interior lights on all the time. Plus, now my trailer lights aren't working, radio will turn itself volume down, dash lights flickering while going down the highway.. What gives..?? (Not to mention every window needed to be re-siliconed to the track mounts), and had to replace the Transfer case auto shifter motor (controls the on-the-fly 4x4 shifting).. UGH... Anyone else..
lights wont go off when driving until the doors have locked a unlocked several times, when you get out you have to play with the ignition to get them off or they will stay on and drain the battery!
