The contact owns a 2001 Ford Excursion. While driving, the brakes failed at least eight times. The dealer informed the contact that the brakes were operating normally. The dealer also stated that the could run a diagnostic test for $85; yet, the contact declined the test. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 254,000.
2001 Ford Excursion 7.3L powerstroke diesel with 114500 miles : ABS control module stopped working and disabled anti lock braking system causing vehicle to skid uncontrollably on wet surface. Failure is permanent in nature and cannot be reset, so anti-lock braking system is deactivated. Repair required is for the ABS control module to be replaced by dealer (cost exceeds $500) and old part is not available.
The vehicle had ongoing problems with the transmission, brakes, and air tire. While driving a noise was heard coming from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, and the problem could not be determined.
The rotors on my 2001 Ford Excursion keep warping and required periodic turning and/or replacement. As of 40,000 miles. On one occasion, the caliper & ABS sensor failed, seizing the front wheel and causing and incident on a snow covered road.
Panic stop and vehicle pulled left so hard that it almost went through the center safety barriers on interstate. Pulled so hard that it felt like someone had grabbed the steering wheel and yanked it. Anytime you brake hard it progressively pulls harder to the left the more you apply the brakes. Also power-steering will disappear at slow speeds making it almost impossible to turn into parking lots. Dealer had vehicle for over 4 weeks. The Ford hot line had the dealer replace the front springs, tie rod ends, steering box, power steering pump, check alignment, try different alignment specs, balance & rotate tires, swapped calipers from side to side, put new calipers and pads on. Dealer drove two other Excursion's one new one & another customer's and they both did the same thing. Ford hot line has admitted to dealership they know of problem but don't know what else to try.
