Belt keep shredding. Went through 3 belts before realizing that the tensioner was bad and had to be replaced.

Bought this car used with about 60xxx miles 2 years ago. The thing is a ticking time bomb. My engine light was on for probably close to a year when the valve spring broke. Mechanic said to ignore the engine light, it was a minor vacuum leak that wasn't worth fixing. I was driving along, engine light started flashing, the car started sputtering, would not accelerate past 30, then 25, temperature was very hot, finally made it to the gas station and smelled oil. Cost me $700 with labor to fix it. Less than a month later I was rear ended and totaled the car. I'm still driving it because I put $700 into fixing the engine a month before it was totaled. Not very pleased with this car. Makes way too many noises to be reliable.

Hi, have problem here, hopefully someone will offer some advice. On this 2000 ford escort, the odometer broke, and I tried getting it smogged. The technician said the computer won't communicate with the smog machine. Help.
