When on highway 55 mph or more transmissions acts like it goes into neutral have no overdrive or drive then also slips in and out. Also have like power surges when using the heater in the car the engine revs up and down like you are stepping on the gas pedal even when in park have not been able to find the cause of these issues yet. Also have had the rear wiper motor and stuff replaced and still do not get washer solvent to rear wiper the brake light in the middle of back window does not work either causes still unknown it is a 1995 Ford Escort LX wagon with only 73000 miles 1.9 L.
While shifting gears vehicle would not move. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that transmission needed to be replaced due to worn out parts.
The consumer was attempting to park the vehicle when it suddenly accelerated out of control. The consumer continued to press the brake but the vehicle would not stop. Dealer notified.
Consumer states that while driving at 30-40 mph, the transmission went out and vehicle just shut down and the vehicle started slowing down. Contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything. The gas tank was leaking after replaced.
Consumer states while driving 40 mph vehicle has lost power. Consumer has had to replace alternator, battery and ignition switch continuously. Consumer feels vehicle is a safety hazard.

The springs actually broke into pieces, which is very hard to believe because of the thickness of the springs - transmission only went out at 82,000 mile, which is also hard to believe. But after speaking with several people who repair them, they informed me that the Ford Escort transmissions usually go out at 60,000 miles. This is a common problem with this vehicle and Ford is aware of this situation. The person who is replacing my transmission at this time is going to being on his 5th Ford Escort within in a week estimating the mileage infromation of being replaced between 54,000 and 85,000 miles. Why can this not be a recall"??" please advise.
Ford's district rep in Georgia, a Mr. Faircloth, told me that if my attitude was that I would never buy a Ford product again seeing as how they were going to gift me with only a $1,000 charge, he didn't know if he wanted to help me at all. No safety defect listed in summary.
While driving down the road heard a loud noise, especially when pulling out from a stop position. When trying to accelerate vehicle would slowdown. Contacted dealer. Dealer replaced transmission twice. Was told that transmission was slipping from second to third gear.
When the car is put in drive it will not function, and when car is put in reverse it will not move. Dealer was contacted, and stated that the car could be fixed at owner's expense.
While driving vehicle stalled unexpectedly which may have caused a crash due to oil not pumping into the engine, which resulted in an engine lock up. Previously had the transmission replaced. Dealer said needed to replace the engine.
Transmission intermittently started to slip out of gear at 31,000 miles. Dealer notified, and informed consume R that vehicle was not part of a recall, and repairs would be at consumer's cost.
My shell has mechanic informed me that there is a national back order on this part. I am concerned that since there is a shortage there maybe a situation endemic to this make and model. This is the second transmission failure with this car. The vehicle was under warranty on the first occasion. The current cost of repair is estimated at $500. Happy holidays, jokl johnson
Automatic transmission locks in third gear and must be manually shifted. Problem is unannounced and seems to only occur during summer months during high temperatures. Transmission will work properly after turning vehicle off for 20-30 minutes.
