Your recall for Ford Escape Hybrid 2008 through 2011 for vehicles, having a steering torque sensor that may not be able to detect driver steering input. This happened to me in my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid, 06/17/18.
Thank God I wasn't on the highway when it happened, I was leaving for lunch, car was parked, turned key, cranked but could not turn the steering wheel. Upon driving it to Wal Mart, short way from my apt, I hurt my back trying to back out and turn to go forward, it was almost impossible for me to turn the steering wheel. I am small woman and have injury to my shoulders and back from that one experience. This should be a major concern to repair for what ever the reason the steering wheel locked, when I turn the key off, the wheel locks again. There will be for sure an accident driving a car with such dangerous, already recalled issues from Ford. My car is under the 10 year date for this recall for 2008 through 2011 for the Electric Power Steering Assist.
I am not physically able to turn or direct the steering wheel in manual mode. I am not yelling, ranting or gripping I simply know that this recall has not closed for my 2009 ford Escape Hybrid and I don't have the money to have it repaired. One of the best vehicles on the road, but with a death trap in one instant.
I have researched this recall and the number of owners are having this recalled problem with the 2009 Escape Hybrid. This should open up the recall even if the 2009's to 2011 have went over the 10 yr closed recall, before more people are killed because Ford refused to repair this problem which is I consider a more dangerous recall than 90% of all Ford's recalls in the past 10 years.
