I bought this 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid from a small dealership in Missouri and when I bought it the ABS light would come on but then go away, so I just figured, "Owe, its a stupid sensor or something". About 2 weeks later the brakes locked up almost catching on fire. I called the dealership they sent me new brake hoses. I had them installed and it worked another few weeks or so, but then it happened again. So when I contacted the dealer he said its not his problem and to quit calling him.
So I took it to 2 dealerships and both said it would be $5700 to fix because it needed a new HCU unit. I only paid $5000 for it. So I did nothing with it. It sat for 3 months in my garage. I finally had a friend who is a mechanic order me a new HCU unit from a salvage yard for $500. So now I have $500 and $160 for a diagnostics check on it from the 2 Ford dealerships. Well once it was installed it needed a programmer to program it to talk to the vehicle. Well that had to be done at the big Ford dealership that wanted to charge me $5700 to fix it. So I took it to them and they couldn't program it because it had GND fault. They said they would have to shotgun parts and see if they can fix it. So even more money. OH, I FORGOT this was my first and only FORD vehicle I have ever had. Well needless to say, I have a yard ornament that cost over $5500 so far.
My mechanic buddy and I are at a loss. He can't even get the ABS to stop working even with the HCU unplugged and the fuses all removed, so it is locked up and sitting in my employers parking lot. I can't even move it. We bleed the brake valves on the locked up side. I drive it for 3 miles and the opposite side locks up. Back and forth we go.
So any suggestions would help. Most people tell me to run it off in the Mississippi River but I don't want the fish to get close to it. It might take a crap on them like it did me.
