This is the second time this has happened to us. A few years ago the car was sitting in the driveway warming up and we came out to find the rear window had exploded and sent glass all over the inside and out of the car. Defrost was on.
Today my wife was diving on the interstate and they heard a clunk and the window shattered. No defrost. They thought maybe a piece of debris had hit it, but I can't see the "magical debris" being kicked up by the tires and hitting the back window.
Update from Aug 24, 2011: I didn't have enough information on the second occurance when I posted. It WAS NOT the rear window that shattered, it was the right quarter window. Possible road debris kicked up and hit it.
