The following was my last message to Ford Corporate Executive offices in Dearborn - I was promised a response, to only the MECS pump issue, within six weeks. Ford Corporate declined to accept any responsibility for the other two hybrid-only issues - the retrofitted hybrid battery harness and the blend door foam seal/fan issue. I am a litigation attorney and I am considering taking formal action - I'd like a measure of the folks out there who might be interested in becoming part of a class action. Each of these failures is limited only to the 2005-2008 series of Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner hybrid models, but, each failure has the capacity to entirely shut down the car without warning (especially the MECS pump and, more directly, the retrofit wiring harness). I would be very interested in contact from those that may have suffered accidents as a result of these sudden shutdown events - we suffered through two of them (shutdown events), but were fortunate to have avoided accidents.
Following up my last correspondence to you, I as confirmed with the XXXX Ford Service department, the 14S19 Motor Electronics Coolant Pump Replacement campaign performed on our 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid consisted of its technicians noting the recall campaign on Friday, September 12, 2014, and checking the vehicle, they found that the replacement MECS pump was already in place (and it would be, as we’d just had that done ourselves, at our own expense, in June when Ford Corporate refused to acknowledge the problem as anything subject to a recall or warranty issue, then declined to pay for the repairs). Accordingly, it is my understanding that XXXX Ford did not undertake to replace the MECS pump that we just paid to replace ourselves in June; rather, it just confirmed the presence of the new MECS pump. I have the defective Bosch MECS pump in my possession.
I have attached a scanned copy of the invoice received today from XXXX Ford related to the recent hybrid system repairs – as you will note, they relate solely to the degraded foam seal on the blend door having fallen into the cooling fan and the replacement of that foam seal, and that latest hybrid work cost another $725.90 related solely and only to the hybrid system. Since June, our hybrid-only repairs well exceed $1,500 – all of which have come our of our pocket, with no participation by Ford – the blend door issue, the MECS pump failure, and the hybrid battery retrofitted harness.
If Ford remains uninterested in resolving our issues, I will, of course, turn to the NHSTA, as well as to other means, to have our concerns addressed and abated.
