On July 3, 2022 I drove my wife's 2020 Ford Escape SUV to Jackson, MI from Ann Arbor, MI to work with my sister-n-law and brother-n-law for some yardwork at my mother-n-law's place 729 N. East Avenue. I parked the car under a tree for shade and left all the windows down so I wouldn't return to a blazing hot car at the end of our work day. Approximately 45 minutes into our yard work, a neighbor leaving their house stopped in the middle of the street because there was smoke coming from the car and promptly got our attention. In the next few minutes there were flames coming from all the windows.
Basically, if the Jackson fire department didn't get to the car as quickly as they did the fire would've made it to the gas tank but it only torched the inside and the dash. The engine wasn't even touched by the fire. After the police arrived it was determined that the fire started behind the dash in the instrument cluster; apparently there was a policeman with prior automotive experience that enabled him to ascertain that the fire started in the wiring harness/assemblies directly behind the dash. Let me know if you'd like additional info or pictures. thank you!
