When the power tailgate is "told" to close either by a switch or with the remote the door will lower but will NOT engage the locking mechanism. This results in the tailgate remaining open of course, but also causes the vehicle lights to remain on which will result in a dead battery. The selling dealer was notified of the issue today (March 15) and the earliest appointment date was March 26. Resolution is pending until that time and I am forced to "manually" assure that the tailgate is fully closed each time it is opened. This is my third Ford Escape and the first with this type of issue. Quite disappointing!
