After I had the problem occur 5 times I went on line to find out if there are similar problems with other owners. I did find other people with this same problem. This issue could be dangerous as the car stalls and I have to put it in park and restart. I am taking the vehicle in to the dealer tomorrow. They have been my service center for many years so I expect this issue to be resolved but from other people's problems it could take a while since I haven't heard of anyone getting the issue fixed.
Update from Jun 22, 2019: I took the car into the dealer that I have been using for years. The diagnosed the problem and found that I was filling the gas tank too full. It was interfering with the vacuum system that cause the sputtering.
I have logged over 1500 miles since the dealer gave me the once over. I have no repeat problems after filling up the car.
I have made certain that I stop filling as soon as the nozzle kicks off.
It appears that Ford was not counting on us old school folks unsure get that we topped off the tank at each fill.
