Just purchased this nice 2018 Ford Escape with a 1.5L engine. Drove it for approx. 3 weeks and boom! just out of nowhere, engine overheating warning on dash so I immediately pulled over. Sure enough, coolant reservoir had antifreeze boiling so I let it cool down and called a tow truck to haul to auto repair shop. They ran all kind of diagnostics. Checked water pump=good; checked for leaks=no leaks; fan belts=all good. Finally they did a block pressure test and found there's coolant leak into cylinder #2. They told me that to repair this problem, I will need to purchase a new short block with a total of $8,000.00. Paid $300 for diagnostics.
Just picked up the car and drove it home approx. 40 miles from shop and started to overheat as I made it home. Let it cool down and added some coolant as it was a little low and drove around town for another 45mins to an hour or so. Didn't overheat this time. Not sure what to do at this point since the car does not have any warranty and I haven't contacted the dealer I bought the car from yet. Since I've only had the car for 3 weeks, does the dealer have any responsibility to repair the car? Regards, Dan... I'm in a bind as I don't have $8K additional for these repairs.
