Thank goodness the transmission didn't go out 4,000 miles ago so it would've been covered under manufacturers warranty. Come on... 4 years old and I have to get an entirely new transmission for $5,000?! It's just ridiculous. As someone who fulfills orders as a small part of their job, I can't imagine being OK with the fact that THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED at less than 64,000 miles? The scariest part is that I cannot have faith this car will last any further than another 60k miles without needing replaced again.

Same as the only transmission problem I have ever had, which was an 8 year old car with 130,000 miles on it, mind you. As I was driving, the car suddenly shifted out of gear, and would only catch in first. Cruised to a stop. Towed it to a garage and then since I didn't want to pay to tow it again, I drove it in first gear down a busy road to the dealership.

Spoke to Ford customer service, as did my husband. I told them the exact same thing, just can't believe this is acceptable. Called a few local transmission places and when I mentioned the make and model they all knew exactly what was going on and that there was no point in working on the existing transmission as it is a piece of useless garbage now.

Got the car brand new, and I immediately noticed that under hard acceleration from a stop that the car would STOP accelerating and stayed 1 first gear and would not go any faster. While this happened the engine RPMs would just stay at 4500, if you left the gas pedal to the floor it would hang there forever... To recover, I had to let off the gas, allow the car to shift into a lower gear and resume acceleration. Which takes quite some time since the transmission is not every responsive, at all.

This scared me several occasions as I live in a rather congested area that sometimes requires "getting on it" to merge with traffic. This gave me major insecurities on the road, and it nerve racking when it happens.

Imagine being committed to merging into traffic (in first gear) foot on the floor, highway vehicles are fast approaching, you are on a short on-ramp and your car completely stops accelerating. Scary. Happened to me at least ten times in 3 years. Now I am at 36000 miles and It hasn't occurs in some time. I hope this comment can help keep someone safe on the road.
