CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

I purchased a 2014 2.0L Ford Escape Titanium in November 2016 with only 26,000 miles. Primarily purchased for commuting round trip average per day of 50 miles. Car is rated to get 20 to 32 MPG. Well I don't get anything near that. Since I drove it off the lot it's been averaging 18.1 MPG. My wife and I drove up North to visit family driving on the freeway of 101Hwy and still gas mileage did not improve. The car interior and exterior is simply beautiful. But the gas mileage is awful. Does anyone out there know how to improve gas mileage? I kinda wish I would of bought a Hyundai Tucson.

Escape SE 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

Poor gas mileage in city driving. I got as low as 17 miles per gal not the 23 miles per gal. I thought a 4 cylinder would be better on gas.

I specifically purchased this 2014 Escape for the mileage. I love the car, but not getting anywhere close. I noted it to the dealer after 3000 miles and they said it should improve around 5000 miles. At 5000 miles it did not improve and they said it will around 7 or 8000 miles. It has not. I have the vehicle that noted the BEST mileage. The EPA/DOT fuel economy on the sticker was 23 to 32 MPG with average at 26. I am lucky to ever get 25, even at optimal conditions.

E.g. I often take an interstate trip from Athens GA to Charleston SC. A very flat uneventful trip. Best ever got was 24.9. Last week, I only got 19.7 with average speeds of 50MPG. I feel this was false advertising, especially when I heard rumor of this and when noted to the dealer they assured me the rumors were false and they may have been on past models.

Escape SE 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,200 miles

I'm very unsatisfied with the MPG.

No matter how easy I drive in or under any conditions, the car doesn't get better than 20 MPG.

I really like the car, but the MPG is just not acceptable.

If it doesn't improve soon, I may trade it in for a different make of car and tell anyone that asks never by a ford escape. The MPG sucks.

I had the 2012 Ford Escape, now I have the 2014 Escape, the gas mileage seems to be way different from what I was told I would get. Not good on gas.
