CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

Coolant intrusion into the engine. Coolant was low even after filling chamber causing overheating which is a safety risk. New engine need confirmed by local auto shop. No warning signal other than low coolant. AUL extended car warranty checked the vehicle and would not cover staring the engine had -?? sludge-?? in it.

Car has idling issues and coolant is repeatedly leaking onto the engine, which is causing smoking and could cause a fire. Car stalls often. It was diagnosed by a non certified Ford repair shop in one day and they suggested I take it to a Ford repair shop, because there are issues with the 2014 1.6 engine in the Ford Escapes. I took it to the shop and I was told a hose was leaking and it was not the engine. Car continued to smoke and stall. I took it back and after a week I was told it needed an engine because the coolant is leaking and it is not safe to drive. Ford said because the car has 113,000 miles on it it will cost $7-$8,000 to repair. The car is paid off and is not safe to drive. I was told by the dealer that they only fix 1.5 engines, but everything I am reading says the issue is with the 1.6 engines. I contacted Ford Customer Service and they told me to contact you because there is nothing they will do. The engine light has been coming on and we have been taking it in for repair for about 2 years. It should not have taken this long to diagnose

Vehicle was taken to local Ford dealer for recalls and coolant issue as noted on service right up as follows; Customer states coolant issue, no visible leak and holding pressure, customer adds about 1 gallon of coolant per month. Per technician; Customer in need of engine. We have researched and we have called two major engine rebuild companies and there are no 2.4 Liter engines to be found. We called a local Ford dealer and spoke to parts department and they stated that they do not have any new 2.4 Liter engines available nor is there any projected build times. I have checked into using a 2.5 Liter and the engines are not interchangeable and basically I have a good car with no engine and cannot be traded or sold.

Car detected low coolant and coolant was added two days in row. On second day the coolant was gone and car warned of high engine temperature, it stopped accelerating and warned to pull over safely while going 75mph on a freeway. Once checked, coolant was completely out and refilled again. Took to a Ford Dealership where had to pay for diagnostic because the Recall for the coolant issue was "Fixed" in 2019. Cause was determined that all the coolant flowed into Cylinder 3 leaving car with only 3 cylinders. Car won't go over 40 mph, and Ford wants thousands to fix an issue that they recalled for. They masked the problem until the car is literally unusable.

The ECO boost engine has a design flaw that makes the coolant not correctly cycle through the machine. Instead, it sits in the hot engine and vaporizes, eroding the engine over time and it can catch fire. There is a current class action lawsuit against FORD, which does not recognize this as a fault. I've had overheating problems where I can't drive my car.

2014 Titanium Escape EcoBoost AWD. NO WARNING LIGHTS RE LOW COOLANT. I have it serviced every three - four months change oil and check fluids. Last service 05/19/2022. 208,000 miles. Car stalled/idle rough in middle of four lane freeway during rush hour. This happened last year in heat wave also. Tonight Landmark Ford in Tigard OR called, said car is totaled, needs to be scrapped or replace engine $18,000 +. Also said torque is twisted and transmission is needed. Asked if this is a known problem. Ashley at Landmark Ford said yes, this particular engine is known to leak coolant into cylinders causing engine failure. I bought the car at Landmark and they assured me they repaired ALL recalls since vehicle was new. However the coolant recall says warning light is installed and THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT WITH LOW COOLANT. Can't afford to pay off loan and buy a another car at 63 years old. Currently searching for repair history to see if this recall repaired. Where is the recall notice on this when there is page after page of exactly the same complaint on nhsta site? Last time I had a known issue Ford dealer refused to repair said my only recourse was to report to nhsta. That doesn't seem to be working for anyone else. There are so many complaints re this here just this year WHY ISNT' THIS RECALLED AND FIXED BY FORD!!!!!

per the coolant recall issued in 2017/2018, I had my car repaired at Ted Britt Ford where I bought my card. I have now had a coolant issue and my car now has been towed to a car repair shop that is stating I will need to buy a new engine due to a crack at cylinder 3 (Which I see repeated over and over for the exact cause on the message boards due to poor recall and that it needs to be recalled again) at a cost of approx $9,000 even though Ford has had these recalls but did not fix the problem as many upon many complaints on the message boards and many phone calls, emails to Ford with no resolutions. I am reaching out to NHTSA in hopes that not only my issue will be resolved whether through a recall. I look forward to a positive, speedy remedy as my car is now sitting in a repair shop parking lot. I have reached out to Ted Britt via email asking for help but once they found out it was due to this recall issue they have stopped responding. The Manager's name is [XXX]. **Update he did respond to me on 9-3-2022 with the 2018 Recall record (which I have uploaded here) and said I need to call Ford directly at 800.392.3673. I will call on Tuesday due to them being closed for the Labor day holiday. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

One day after a scheduled oil change my Escape idled very rough upon start up. The check engine light came on. I returned to the Dealer and they found the code was for the cylinder 1 misfire. the code was cleared and reported to me then it did the same thing for the next several days but no check engine light would come on. Today, upon start it idled rough and "Low Coolant require service" message popped up on my dash. Having pressure tested tomorrow to see if coolant is leaking into the cylinder.

The car failed while driving, it was inspected by and independent mechanic and also the Ford dealership, van bortel Ford in Rochester NY - it's a 2014 Ford escape titanium with 60,000 miles on it. They said the coolant leaked into the engine and the engine now needs to be replaced. We routinely maintained the car. There was no indication or lights that went off warning us of the issue - the car just suddenly stopped working one day and said it was overheating but there was no smoke coming from the engine. We could have gotten hurt while driving since it stopped automatically.

For the past five years, I've been experiencing low coolant issues which I realize isn't a safety problem in and of itself. It's been an ongoing issue and I've spent hundreds of dollars to have the same problem continuing to recur. The mechanics claim there's no leak yet every 2-3 months I have to put antifreeze in my car. Several times without notice (low coolant light not working), a high temp light comes on telling me to pull over to safety. The engine goes to low power. Usually after about 10-15 minutes, the car is fine. I've explained this to the dealership and never have they been able to find a problem, but I think the two are connected. The most recent safety-related issue was without notice, the high temp warning came on in very busy traffic and the car powered-down, presenting a significant safety hazard. THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL 22S43/22V413, STATING THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR.
