CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

My car quit working and I have been trying to get it fixed since 10/24. It definitely sounds like the recall issue but Ford is telling me its not. They want to charge me $5500 to fix it but it definitely sounds like a bushing error.

My 2014 Ford Escape drove fine until my husband drove it to work and was trying to back into a parking spot. The car wouldn't go into reverse. Later that night when he left work the car started shifting rough so had the car towed to prevent more damage. Was told by the dealership that I needed a new transmission at 116,000 miles. So I have been working with Ford to see if they will pay all or at least half. Now 17 months later I have just given up on the run around with the home office for something that should have been a recall for bad parts and just paying for the fix. Either replacement toward planetary disk with solenoid damage. Or new transmission.

I was driving down the road and an "info" light came on saying "transmission fault - service transmission now". then check engine light came on. Took car to a transmission repair company and they said it's a torque converter issue and I need a whole new transmission for $4,500!!!! this car isn't that old and I'm seeing this is a very common issue with 2014 Ford Escapes. In motion on city street.

Per Ford diagnosis, transmission shifter cable has degraded over time causing car to remain in neutral, even while gear shifter is located in park position. Car will not sit in park unless parking brake is applied. Found while parking in driveway. Known recall on some 2014 Ford Escapes. This VIN was indicated as not part of the recall, but exhibiting the exact same failure. Reference: 18V471000

Escape

Winding noise coming from transmission during driving and while in park, when the transmission hits running temp it starts to lunge and brake randomly without hitting the brake, shift points are not lining up with the correct engine RPM which creates sudden shifting or late shifting. After all of this happened then the 'transmission fault service now' message popped up on the dash. Vehicle was driven on city streets under normal stop and go conditions. 81,639 miles on the odometer currently.

Driving in metro area my car began not moving or what I would call not engaged with the gas pedal. Than it began to run fine, when I stopped at a red light and pushed the gas pedal again the car would not move at all but rolled back a bit until I pressed on the break peddle. Then the next time I pushed the gas it lunged forward, I pulled over at the next parking lot and had it towed to a car shop. They have told me that I need a new transmission.

I've only had the car 2 months and the transmission just went out one today. First it began to not take off as quickly as it should. Two days later it stopped going completely. The date it started was 10/18/2020 it went out 10/22/2020. When I first bought the car I did have issues with it cranking right after I put gas in it but the issue was supposedly fixed.

Cause of failure is believed to be transmission failure (mileage 96,649). Customer was driving the vehicle (city street; approximately 35mph) and then suddenly the engine started revving (similar to the car being in neutral) and the vehicle speed started to slow down (due to the transmission not providing forward momentum). The vehicle was pulled over to a side street so it could be parked and safely removed from vehicle traffic. The vehicle is being assessed by the dealer we purchased it from (ganley Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 310 broadway ave, bedford, oh 44146). I have read that other owners of 2014 Ford Escapes have had similar problems and concerns with their transmissions. I would like to know if Ford is going to issue a recall regarding this transmission.
