CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Ford Escape has been in the news quite a bit and for all the wrong reasons. Within a few months of its release the SUV was recalled three times, twice because of engine fires.

In July 2012, due to a fuel line that could split and leak, Ford told owners to park their cars because even driving to the dealership for repairs was deemed too dangerous. Instead, in a somewhat unprecedented move, Ford sent tow trucks to pick up the affected vehicles and handed out rental cars while the owners waited for repairs.

A few months later the Escape was recalled again because antifreeze could leak out onto the engine due to a freeze plug becoming dislodged. As the coolant hit the hot engine there was, once again, a threat for fire.

The 2013 is the first model year of the Escape's 3rd generation and proves once again that you want to avoid the first model year when at all possible.

Rain sensing wipers came on in the morning for no apparent reason. It was not raining! I moved the wiper stalk all the way up and down and they would not turn off! I turned off the engine! and restarted. Now the windshield wipers will not turn on!!!! Went to Walnut Creek Ford, Walnut Creek California, 2 service advisers and a mechanic checked car and fuses, wipers still would not come on! next morning took car back to dealership. It was raining turned wipers on and they worked????? Dealer called Dearborn Michigan for answers! have had car for 2 days

Update from Jan 5, 2017: The dealer was able to pinpoint the problem with help from Dearborn! Walnut Creek Ford is a great Dealership! and very qualified people! They updated all my modules with updated software, there are 10 of them!! If the problem reoccurs I will replace the Battery monitoring sensor. If that doesn't correct the problem I will replace the BCM (body control module) Very satisfied with Walnut Creek Ford! Not Satisfied with Ford Motor Company!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update from Jan 15, 2017: The Battery sensor module appears to be the culprit! this sensor is on the negative battery cable! it is all 1 unit Ford calls it " battery management system" This is the 4th update for this part!!! the latest part number for this is AVZ6Z-10C679-M "Sensor" the new cable with the sensor costs just under $50.00

This car was bought new and had it for 3 years. 2013 Ford Escape and it has had 6 recall on it. The warranty was 200 miles over. I will never own a Ford product again. They are lemons and I have had nothing but problems with them.
