- Summary
- 1.6L GTDI - SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT - DTC P26B7 - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 2/13/2013 ISSUE Some 2013 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.6L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine built on or before 2/13/2013 may exhibit a service engine soon lamp illuminated with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P26B7 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) memory. This DTC indicates a fault is present with coolant bypass solenoid C, located at the rear of the engine above the starter/bell housing and below the vacuum pump. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Using the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent scan tool, retrieve continuous memory DTCs. Is DTC P26B7 present in PCM memory? a. Yes - proceed to Steps 2. b. No - this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics. 2. Replace the engine coolant bypass valve with a new service part. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-03. 3. Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 83.03 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
