CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Ford Escape has an acceptable complaint history so far, with leaking rear window problems showing up as the main concern so far. NHTSA complaint data shows an early pattern of problems with stalling while driving.
The rear lift gate latch stopped working this summer and it is a pain in the ass but we'll have to live with it. At $300-$500 to fix not a top priority on my budget, I'll wait till they recall.
I called the garage today to complain that I can't open the back of my 2012 Ford Escape & the service technician tells me that his wife just had the same problem with their 2012 Ford Escape last week. When looking on-line, I see that there are no recalls for this issue, but it is a reoccurring problem with Escapes, going back to at least 2009. Obviously, Ford is repeatedly using a faulty part or has made a poor design choice! I find this very aggravating, especially since that is the whole point of getting a vehicle with a rear hatch - so you can put things in there & it is apparently a big weakness in this vehicle.
Because I purchased the extended warranty, it is only going to cost me $100 instead of almost $300. I find it very interesting that the service technician bought the extended warranty for his car too - doesn't he trust in the quality of Ford?!? I bought it because this is my first (& potentially last) Ford & I didn't know their track record. I guess I'll get my money's worth out of the warranty!
