less than 42500 miles on my 2011 ford escape almost winter now and fan is only working on high. I now read that this is happening on 2008 - 2012 ford escape. Thank God it was not snowing and I have at least high fan. I read others had to replaces more than once.
The air blower resistor corrodes within a few short years, and needs to be replaced. It's an easy job that anyone can do, videos available on YouTube, the part thankfully resides inside the glove compartment. I got the part online for only $20, and it takes maybe 15 minutes to replace if you have the right tools. Why I should have to do this every few years though is just ridiculous, I never had this issue on any other vehicle over the years. If you don't do it, you're stuck with only the 3rd or 4th fan setting.
GLAD I SEARCHED. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. MY FRIEND HAD SAME PROBLEM AS ME. FIRST 2 BLOWER MOTOR SETTINGS DON'T WORK. WILL TRY RESISTOR FIX. CERTAINLY A PIA.
During the winter months my 2011 Ford Escape's heating/AC would not blow out any air on the first two settings. The problem was eventually fixed with a Motor Blower Resistor replacement. It cost me One Hundred Dollars, however you could easily replace it yourself as it is a twenty-five dollar part. There is a youtube video with a fairly good portrayal of how to fix this, I couldn't figure out how to attach it to this.
